"We've stayed in lots of cottages over the years and felt this was a little disappointing. First the good points... The cottage is extremely spacious with great views and there's long walks right on your doorstep. The huge gardens are fantastic, very well maintained and with it's own woodland paths. The decking area is also superb for sitting out on an evening. It is very remote, so don't expect wi-fi, mobile coverage or even a landline. There is Sky TV but even that's a bit hit-and-miss in bad weather. Unfortunately the interior was quite tired and dated particularly the bathroom. Even the items in the property seemed either old or just poor quality. As other reviewers have stated, if you're stuck in for an afternoon due to bad weather there isn't much for you to do. There's a bookcase with a rather odd selection of old books, the only two relevant to Skye date from the 70's and 80's. There's a cassette player(!) and two cassettes provided for your listening pleasure (Abba or The Specials!) There is a DVD player and a handful of DVD's which were given away free with newspapers so again bring your own, but the TV is a small Tesco own-brand one so don't expect a great picture quality! If you have kids there's a toy box and a few boardgames (original mastermind from the 1970's anyone?!) which might keep them amused. It's a shame because this property has the potential to be absolutely stunning with a bit of a refit. Finally as with most remote places like these it does have a private water supply which is a little brown, I'm sure it's fine but personally we always bring bottled water."

"Fabulous cottage, just like the pictures on the website. Situated above the village of Carbost, (and the Talisker Distillery) it has wonderful views to the head of the Loch and the mountains in the background. Kitchen is modern and all the appliances are top quality, only thing missing was a cheese grater and measuring jug but everything else to allow full self catering was catered for. Beds were very comfortable and the showers super. We had my 84 year old mother with us and I was a little concerned about the curved stairs but they were much wider than they appear in the picture and were no bother at all. This is a wonderful cottage and deserves its 5* rating."

"The cottage is in a great location sitting up on a hill overlooking Carbost and the loch. Ideal location for exploring Skye, with Portree and Broadford within easy driving distance. The cottage itself has everything you need although some of the items need updated for example the toaster. The cottage was what you would call basically clean with the bedroom, living room and bathrooms all clean but it could do with a more detailed spring clean, but this did not spoil our stay. The Oyster Shed which is just up from the cottage is worth a visit and we did not hear any noise from it at all, and it was quite busy."

"This is without question the best holiday cottage I have ever stayed in. It’s beautifully decorated, well equipped and very comfortable. It’s also in a beautiful situation. I’m scoring it 6 for local amenities because it’s a 45 minute drive from the nearest large supermarket but apart from that there’s a pub within walking distance, a post office, a small (expensive) shop and a distillery. Special mention has to be made of the Oyster Shed which is five minutes walk away. Oysters, lobster, squat lobsters and other sea food cooked to order to eat in or take away plus a wide selection of other high end grub."

"The cottage was well equipped but the furniture was tired, the bed creaked with every movement and the mattress was very uncomfortable, the two seater couch was so old that the leather was threadbare and the outdoor furniture had broken slats. The access to the property was awkward as you had to drive through the small, busy car park to the Oyster Shed onto a very steep driveway with a very sharp turn at the bottom of it.The views from the property were lovely and the surroundings were peaceful and quiet despite the Oyster Shed being yards away."
