"The cottage itself is quite nice but in need of a bit of TLC. The downstairs bathroom door was slightly warped and in need of planing, there was a water stain on the carpet in the downstairs bedroom and the shared outdoor gas bbq was filthy when we arrived. It was a hot weekend when we were there but there were no fans in the property and when you opened the door/windows the property was inundated with flies - a simple fly screen at the door would have helped. The upstairs bathroom smelt damp throughout our stay, despite opening windows to let some air in.Also, shared outdoor space is fine if your neighbours are friendly - ours were not. Their children prevented ours from playing on toys provided by the property, they hogged the pool and caused a confrontation over the booking system which they claimed not to understand. Perhaps if this had been managed by the owner rather than visitors it could have been prevented. It's a nice property, with plenty of space for youngsters to let off steam but it could be an outstanding property in time. The owner is lovely however, and incredibly helpful with her local knowledge."

"The location was great for National Trust properties (Wimpole Hall is just two minutes away) and many more within half an hour. Positives about the propertyThe beds were comfortable and the hot water apparently limitless.Negatives about the propertyThere was an unpleasant fly paper above the kitchen sink which had clearly not been changed in weeks, there were literally over a hundred dead flies on it.The upholstery on one of the sofas was worn and in one place had split. The mat inside the front door was shabby and fraying. The freezer compartment in the fridge was broken and had been repaired with tape. The downstairs toilet seat had one wingnut missing. The kitchen was poorly equipped, and we had to buy our own oven gloves. There were only three of some types of plates and cutlery in a cottage suitable for four people. Some of the crockery was dirty, especially the mugs which were badly stained. The garden furniture was totally unusable as the wood was rotten and splitting."

"This cottage should be lovely as it has everything in it that you require and is in a lovely location. Unfortunately the cleanliness is not up to standard and is in need of a good Spring Clean. The windows were filthy with fly stickers that had run down the windows with dead flies attached. Bedding was clean but had not been ironed. The suite in the lounge is comfortable but beginning to smell of other bodies. The wooden floor is also in need of a clean. Likewise on arrival the area around the door had not been swept and there were cigarette ends under the front door mat. On a positive note my hairdryer tripped the electrical supply so I had to find the manager straight away and he was most helpful. There was also no welcome book in the cottage, it was only when I looked at the visitors book that I found emergency numbers etc written on the inside cover. No information of surrounding places to visit or places to eat."

"On the directions showing how to get there it stated 'not to arrive before 3pm' and 'the owner will be there to greet you' . We arrived at 4pm and had to wait another half an hour because it was still being cleaned and - no greeting at all. In fact we didn't see anyone to talk to all week. The cottage was fine, although it could do with a bit of re-decoration. The biggest problem was the flies. Any food had to be covered to avoid becoming a feast for the flies. We went on a fly-hunt and killed about 60 within the week - although there was always 2 or 3 more buzzing around. The lighting in the living area was dim - enough for sitting around talking though - and the one by the sink wasn't working at all. If you wanted to see what you were doing up at the table (including eating) it was a matter of using the moveable lamp to give sufficient light"

"Excellent property, with a lovely owner who met us on arrival, welcome pack absolutely amazing, comfortable beds and everything you could possibly need in The property for a comfortable, easy stay, Ely being on the doorstep too makes for a lovely easy enjoyable trip to the river, cathedral and so many places to enjoy good food, I particularly liked a shop with lots of goodies called "The Eel Catchers Daughter" and the Waterfront Antiques Centre has some treasures to find too, we had a lovely weeks stay in S71491 and hope to return, on a final point if you have children the amazing games room set in the garden has everything to keep them occupied you could wish for and as Orchard Cottage sits on a hill the views from kitchen window and garden are at times quite breathtaking."
