As somebody who loves to travel, likes a good deal and isn’t tied to school holidays, I’ve tended to take a lot of breaks in November. As a Snaptrip employee though, I know November isn’t a popular time for staycations (only January was less popular in 2016).
Since I feel like people are missing a trick by not getting out and about in the UK in November, I thought I’d share my personal experience and personal photos! By highlighting some of the great deals available I hope to inspire more people to enjoy the UK this month.
Headed to: Croyde, Devon
Croyde is a very special place. It’s a small place with a very welcoming warm character, gorgeous beaches popular with surfers, and breathtaking rocky coastal walks. I went to Croyde in 2010 for my brother-in-law’s stag do – November was the perfect time to get some cheap accommodation for a group break! While we spent most of the time playing games, drinking and listening to live music in Croyde’s charming pubs (I can highly recommend The Thatch), we took some time to explore and catch some Autumn sunshine.
Headed to: Exmouth, Devon
Since going to University in Exeter, I’ve been back a lot and it feels a bit like going home. I enjoyed studying there, and spent my weekends visiting local towns and the coastline – Dawlish and Exmouth featuring most heavily. This trip was part of a pre-Christmas shopping trip to Exeter with my girlfriend (who is now my wife!) to show her my University town. It was cold for this trip, but the beach looked as attractive as ever!
Headed to: Bath, Somerset
Bath was a last minute break because we wanted to get away for a weekend. It is beautiful both by day and night. Lots of great bars, restaurants and cream teas! Walking the streets at night felt cosy and romantic with just the two of us. It is quite a photogenic place too (shame I’m not a great photographer!)
Headed to: London for Armistice Day
2014 was the 100th anniversary since the outbreak of the First World War, so Armistice day was particularly poignant. We went on a weekend break to London to enjoy the blue Autumn skies over the city but also take in the sea of 888,246 ceramic poppies placed to remember the British & Colonial military war dead.
Headed to: Croyde, Devon (once again!)
Not a stag to this time but an extended family trip to celebrate a birthday! We booked out a few days and spend a wonderful family time walking along the coast, eating deliscious food and playing board games in the evening with a bottle of wine. This was my first trip as a Snaptripper!
Headed to: Bournemouth, Dorset
A sneaky long weekend last year, my wife an I went to Bournemouth to get another fix of the seaside – because who can get enough of it. Bournemouth was quiet, but the November sun was warm and we experienced some lovely restaurants, I particularly remember eating at the Durley Inn Harvester – purely because of the beach-front location. *whispered* My wife and I have a bit of a penchant for Harvester! *whispered*
I hope that gives you a taste of what you can get up to in November – the UK is just as beautiful plus there is plenty to do and discover! You’ll also save a lot by travelling off-peak!
