September; the beginning of autumn, a fresh start and the return of woolly jumpers. It’s a glorious month when there is a freshness in the air, but the chill of winter is still being kept at bay by the late summer sunshine. Schools start back this month so if you’re looking to escape the crowds, this is a brilliant time of year to go away. There are lots of events taking place right across the UK, but if you’re wondering ‘what’s on in September?’ we have found you a selection of the best, unmissable events this month.
Narberth Food Festival
For a warm welcome, and plenty of good food, head to Narberth in Pembrokeshire. This town will be hosting a food festival from 22nd – 23rd September 2018. Compared to other food festivals in Wales, this is a relatively small one with about 50 stalls. However, what it lacks in quantity, it certainly makes up for in quality. Narberth Food Festival is a family-friendly event with plenty of entertainment across the weekend; from cookery master classes to face painting for the kids.
Festival Number 6
Visit Portmeirion in Gwynedd, Wales this September for a wonderful, eclectic event. Festival Number 6 will be taking place from 6th – 9th September 2019, and it is an award-winning music, arts and culture festival. Catch sought after acts in spell-binding surroundings; this year’s headliners are Friendly Fires, The The and Franz Ferdinand. Music aside this festival also offers phenomenal food and activities from paddle boarding to massages. The festival is also taking a break after this year, so don’t miss out.
York National Book Fair
For the largest antiquarian book fair in Britain, head to York for 14th – 15th September. The York National Book Fair takes place across three floors at York Racecourse and has over 200 booksellers so the diversity of books on offer is astounding. It is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for rare, antiquarian and out-of-print books. Take your time to explore the gems on offer.
Classic Car Show
For the petrol-heads among you, the Isle of Wight is hosting a Classic Car Show this September. Taking place on 15th and 16th September this event will be at Newport Quay on the Saturday, and Ryde Esplanade on the Sunday. This event will showcase cars from across the UK and mainland Europe, with an impressive range of cars to appreciate. Expect to see vintage, classic, custom and retro cars as well as other rare vehicles.
North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival
Another food festival to tempt your taste buds will be taking place in Norfolk this September. The North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival will be taking place on 1st and 2nd September in the Walled Garden at Holkham Hall. You’ll find a brilliant selection of local food and drink producers offer everything from cakes to artisan beer. There will also be plenty of entertainment for all the family, including the cookery theatre and child-friendly activities.
