With the heatwave set to continue, we reckon August is a great month to leave the office behind and explore a new corner of the UK. The August bank holiday is on our horizon, but don’t think you need to wait until the long weekend to soak up one of the UK’s brilliant summer events. There’s a lot going on, but fear not, we’ve whittled down the selection to a few of our favourites. From comedy to music, fireworks and seafood; there will surely be something to tickle your fancy here.
Castell Roc Festival
A music festival in a castle? Castell Roc takes place in Chepstow Castle, Monmouthshire from 16th – 19th August and 24th – 2nd September. Touted as one of the friendliest festivals, this unusual gathering has a wide variety of shows to choose from; from Leo Slayer to The Magic of Motown.
For more musical delights, albeit of a slightly different nature, head to Brecon Jazz in Brecon, Wales from 10th – 12th August. It’s set to be a weekend of fun with numerous Jazz performances and exhibitions. There will even be workshops too, if you want to get more involved.
Edinburgh Fringe Festival
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an unmissable feature of Edinburgh’s events calendar. This fun and welcoming festival takes place throughout the city from 3rd – 27th August. There will be comedy and performances to appeal to all tastes. It also gives you a chance to explore this grand city and all the excellent food and drink it also has to offer.
The British Firework Championships
For a weekend filled with some of the most amazing fireworks you’ll ever see, head to Plymouth for the British Firework Championships. Taking place on the 8th and 9th August, with three displays each evening. Not only will there be spellbinding firework displays but there will also be a funfair and music.
Lymington Seafood Festival
For foodie delights this August, be sure to visit the Lymington Seafood Festival. It will be taking place on 11th and 12th August and will have an incredible array of food and drink. Expect craft beers, innovative artisan food and even a demonstration kitchen.
