Going to a festival this Summer?
Of course you are. Festivals are the perfect UK excursion where lifelong memories are to be made and excellent new music is to be discovered. No longer sweaty, dirty affairs – festivals are getting all kinds of family-friendly, cool and safe. That’s why we’re letting you in on our top festival secret: bookending your outdoorsy, musical weekend with a one-night cottage stay to remember.
Hear us out: A relaxing night in a cottage the night before your festival means a) you’re settled in the area and don’t have to worry about getting lost or stuck in traffic come morning, b) you avoid a painfully early alarm clock and potentially long drive to your festival, c) you can beat, or wait out, the festival admission queues and d) you enjoy an exciting night in a warm, cosy bed to prepare you for a weekend sleeping amongst the mud.
A relaxing night in a cottage after your festival is just as advantageous. It cuts out your long, tired, hungover drive from the festival, gets you to a warm house with a hot shower straight away and is the perfect slice of luxury to look forward to from the not-so-comfort of your sleeping bag.
So read on for the best in family friendly festivals and the cottages that will make your trip.
No Man’s Land Festival (Friday 27th May – Sunday 29th May 2016)
Over in South West Somerset we have No Man’s Land Festival, a friendly live music, arts and crafts festival located in a secret forest. Nearby we have our Cosy Dulverton Cottage, a 15 minute drive from the West Somerset District, and also the wonderful Minehead Cottage, just further along. Both provide a great base for the No Man’s Land Festival and the brilliant chance to explore a little of the West District of Somerset before you leave.
Scarborough Fair (Friday 27th May – Sunday 29th May 2016)
On the very same weekend the Yorkshire Coast is set to come alive with the Scarborough Fair Festival. Situated on the beautiful Cayton Bay, this festival showcases the very best arts and music of the UK for one weekend, this year featuring Sir Ben Kingsley, Michael Fassbender’s DMC Film, Dave Beer, I Am Kloot and so much more. Our Excellent Filey Bungalow is located just an eight minute drive from Cayton Bay, making it a major sweet spot for staying in Scarborough around the festival. Similarly, take a look at this Scarborough Cottage, less than half an hour away and ideal for a post-festival day out in the North York Moors.
Kendal Calling (Thursday 28th July – Sunday July 31st 2016)
Kendal Calling, a fabulous, family-friendly festival that takes over Lowther Deer Park in Penrith each and every summer, just north of most popular Lake District hotspots. They offer all range of camping from teepees to family camping sites positioned further away from the Main Stage. Above all they offer festive fun in a beautiful environment with big-show live music, activity tents and food stalls in their hundreds. Luckily, we have cottages within 20 minutes of the festival, meaning you can have a real morning chill out before you go hit the fields – our Kings Meaburn Cottage is less than 20 minutes away and is a taste of spacious luxury (world’s away from your tent). We also have available the Charming Pooley Bridge And Northern Ullswater Cottage, where 20 minutes in one direction you have the thriving Lake District town of Keswick, and 20 minutes in the other? Kendal Calling.
