"Altho this bungalow had superb views and a brilliant location. We were not impressed with how the garden seemed to be a walk through for dog walkers! I was standing at kitchen window in pj's several mornings and people with digs were cutting thru a gap in back garden and walking thru garden and down drive! I was v shocked by this as it isn't stated in description it is a public walk thru!? If it was we wudnt have booked it! We have 3 young children and don't find this safe for them to be playing in garden with strangers walking thru! Plus out dog wasn't impressed! Your description actually states it stand in it's 'own'grounds?! I would not describe it as modern either with old tired sardines and drawers, one of which fell off when opening it and knob fell off in other room when opening drawer!( not great first impression) It could be a lovely holiday bungalow if a little bit tlc was shown to it. Yes it had a back door to garden but we had no key for this either? There was also a smell of damp, particularly in twin bedroom when heater was on, we discovered in corner of bedroom that damp had been covered up with paint! U cud see as it was a diffetent type and it showed! This is not great with 2 asthma sufferers in the bungalow! We couldn't contact the owner prior to arriving as no one answered the phone or returned our answer phone messages. We got a little list on arrival and phone number again, still no answer! There is a mobile number we found in a folder later in the hol, however this number not on the confirmation details we received. Luckily we asked some locals and found it and bungalow was open! We didn't see or hear from owner whilst there. We won't book again as garden is not enclosed for small children or dogs and is on a road! Plus the walk thru issue."

"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"Great property, really lovely set up- private if you want it to be but welcoming hosts, who introduced us to their grandson and the farm animals. Cottage was great for our needs with a lovely kitchen, really well equipped and a warming stove, with plentiful log supply. Didn't need the heating even in October! Only minor inconvenience was lack of wifi (you can just about get it in the field outside from one of the other properties) and with no 3G/4G we had to rely on other ways to research and explore. Very close to Carsington Water which is a lovely spot for children to play, running, cycling, water activities. Also quite close to Ashbourne, Matlock Bath, Bakewell and we had a great day out at Thomas Land, Drayton Manor which is about an hour away. Heights of Abraham well worth a visit especially on a sunny day.Overall, highly recommended and we would revisit (being more organised to live without network coverage!)"

"Really lovely place - beautiful countryside location, beautifully furnished cottage. The comfy living room has a log burner and we showed up to find a fire already laid for it, and the kitchen space was nice and well enough equipped that we enjoyed cooking there and did that for most of our meals.Nearby Carsington Reservoir is good for walking and we saw lots of nice birds - highlights were a kestrel hunting right nearby and nuthatches hanging around one of the bird feeders in the wooded bits around it. There's a pub in the nearest village, and we dropped in to the local shop at Kirk Ireton and found it was a community-run place; it was small but had friendly staff and they'd fit an impressive range of groceries for a pretty small premises. You'd probably have to go to Ashbourne to stock up properly for a full week here though, or order online. I'd definitely go back for another week here some time."

"The cottage is beautifully appointed with a great deal of thought and consideration having been put into the furniture, furnishings, decoration and equipment. S16446 was spotlessly clean and presented as though we were first people to have stayed there since it was decorated / refurbished.Nice touches such as flowers, chocolates, cake, orange juice, bubbly etc. all add to the pleasurable experience and shows that owners are not cost cutting but making the experience as enjoyable as possible. The outside decked seating area behind and above the property has been very cleverly completed, providing a private, peaceful and relaxing area. This was very welcomed as on weekends and bank holidays when the weather is good, the cottage and front garden will attract attention from visitors. Night time is wonderfully quiet and peaceful and no street lamps which is nice."
