"The 22 acres & 3 (extremely small) lakes (tho' plenty of fish if you're an angler) was a disappointment. The Retreat is in the middle of a series of barbed-wire horse fields so you cannot walk far (15 mins at most round the whole lot). The property itself is really cute and spotless but the bed (which the owners are aware of ) is a cheap flimsy metal affair which squeaks with every move and the mattress is VERY uncomfortable). People who use the horse fields walk around the property exercising their dogs; and fishermen use the larger lake so there is limited privacy. (A child and a fisherman both appeared at the rear bedroom window - on separate occasions.) But the absolute killer is that the property is only a couple of hundred yards from an excruciatingly busy A road (even on Christmas Day). It is extremely noisy and cannot be walked along safely (ie if you want to go for a stroll or walk to the local pub you have to drive - and there are no 'grounds' to walk round. If you're expecting a base to go walking without having to rely on a car this is not for you. However, if you're a fisherman I should imagine it's a dream."

"Good clear instructions from the owner so easy to find and arrange arrival time. The Lodge is within their large front garden. Plenty of parking and privacy. We found the Lodge to be warm and comfy, milk, biscuits and flowers were left for us showing the owners appreciation of our booking- that was a lovely touch. Bathroom and kitchen clean, also all bedding, pillows and duvet. Seating area both upstairs and in the kitchen diner, we were informed that we could move furniture around to fit our own needs but we enjoyed the TV upstairs with it's homely sofa and cushions. Shop and pub in walking distance but with the main road being busy ( you do not have to cross) we gave this a miss as we relaxed with a drink back at the Lodge. Morrisons is about 5 miles further up the road so we just did one shop for the week we stayed. For us we would stay again but in the winter, just the right place for slippers, jim-jams and a nice malt whisky . They even had a full draw of DVD's! If there was drift's of snow outside what would we care!!! Loved it!"

"The retreat itself cannot be faulted in any way. It is the perfect place to go if you want a relatively secluded and relaxing time in the new forest. There are a number of lakes around the property which are a nice walk in itself. It is in the best place possible for exploration of the new forest. It should be noted however that the property is relatively near an A road and that unavoidably there is the faint sound of traffic, but only from outside the property. Although we did not see the owners this was not a problem at all and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Perhaps we could return in the summer and sit on the lovely veranda without freezing to death. Many thanks for a very enjoyable stay. "

"The Old Meeting Hall is finished to a very high standard and everything you could need has been supplied. The owners are extremely nice people for whom nothing is too much trouble. Although the owners live next door they respected our privacy and left us to enjoy our break, but were easily contactable if we had any queries. The location is beautiful, peaceful and typical English Countryside with quaint villages & Thatched Cottages. The local pub, The Crown Inn is only a 5 minutes walk away and they offer good food to eat in or takeaway. A truly wonderful place to escape to the country, I would highly recommend this property and will be returning as soon as they have availability."

"We had a lovely long weekend break at the Old Meeting Hall and were made very welcome on our arrival. A good location to explore the Test area with lovely walks from the doorstep. The cottage is very comfortable and warm. Everything you need is in place including a nice welcome pack. The local pub is within easy walking distance and is dog friendly even in the restaurant. WE did't need the shops but there is a little shop within 100 yards or so of the cottage and they will even deliver groceries to you for your arrival. Ample off road parking and quiet. The hot tub is a bonus and is very secluded. There are even little ducks to play with. WE would definitely book this cottage again."
