"Having stayed at Blackclough last summer in the same week and had a fabulous time, we were unfortunately disappointed with our return stay. The location is absolutely stunning. Remote, amazing walks from the door which made us want to return. However, the cleanliness of the kitchen in particular was poor. No tin opener which was frustrating and no tea towels although we managed to find some in a laundry basket in the boot room (which we did not have access to on our first trip). There was a problem with the water pump which was incredibly noisy and intrusive. Not sure if they had already been aware of the problem before we reported it. A plumber visited midweek but was unable to rectify the problem whilst we were there. So it was not a peaceful stay with noises through the night. The timing of our visit was just bad luck as plumbing issues cannot be predicted. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable, well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the wildlife with sheep peering through your front door and a hare spotted through the bathroom window. A 15 min walk down to Three Shire Head bridge with waterfall and plunge pool - a must! So much to do in the local area with bike ride along the Monsail trail into Bakewell and stunning walks from Edale, the start of the Penine Way."

"More attention to detail is needed when cleaning, particularly in the storage area in loft bedroom and the loft bathroom. Bed linen has seen better days. Some kitchen utensils sticky and baking trays definitely seen better days. Table mats sticky and dirty. The grass needed cutting which made it unpleasant to sit in the garden. No welcome pack so beware if you are arriving late. Stairs are very steep and there is no toilet on ground floor. Steps into front door very steep although it is easier to go in the back door. Designated car parking space was apparently repaired on our last day however there is still a dip on driving into it and there are lots of pot holes. You either have to reverse in or out and along a long narrow road. You cannot see the car from the cottage. There is parking on the road however which is a safer bet.Good information packs available about surrounding areas with places to visit, walks, etc.Good base to visit this beautiful part of the country if the cleaning issues are dealt with, in a lovely little village with lots of local amenities and lovely walks."

"My family and I had a lovely time wandering around the peaks next to S25068 cottage. The cottage was very well equipped and we had a very nice fire in the wood burner on the last day as the weather became cooler. (we brought our own logs and kindling with us to continue the fire as there is a starter set only) We took our dog, a small Springer, with us. I made sure she was always cleaned off before she entered the living room after having been out. There were a lot of steep stairs so I would not recommend anyone to stay in this cottage if they have issues with mobility. Also in the small garden area, it is a tiny yard which is accessible to other households and there are steps leading up to a small grass area with a table. All in all, we had a few wonderful days staying at this cottage, it was quirky and just in the right place for many walks to the peaks, only a few minutes walk to the town of hayfield, pubs and local shops to buy provisions from."

"Excellent week. Can recommend walks from the book on Mam Tor and Kinder Scout. Lovely, easy cycle from Buxton - Bakewell, on Monsal Trail - see leaflets. Windmill pub and Vale Inn are both good. Lyme Park House are also good, but glad we went early - got very busy by the afternoon. The cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the area. The book of walks seemed accurate, with its timings for length of walks, also flat walks along ridge to Shining Tor. Cycled from Blackwell Mill through trees and tunnels, which was relaxing and scenic. Bakewell touristy but pretty. The games room at the cottage was a massive hit. The house was clean and tidy and the welcome hamper, including scones, was wonderful Thank you. "

"This is a remote stone farmhouse beautifully modernised. It would be ideal for keen walkers. The owners have provided everything you would expect in a luxury cottage. However, it is not on mains water and the noise from the pumped system when you drew any water was irritating. Forewarned about the very steep access to the house, we were still rather taken aback by the gated, narrow, twisting tarmac track which has to be taken very cautiously at night, in a downpour. OK we were a set of 4 OAP's and I'm sure youngsters would have revelled in the adventure! We ate twice at the Knight's table pub in Flash 2miles away. Excellent value and delicious homely food."
