"A lovely cottage, with a well equipped kitchen and lounge and two bedrooms. It is well away from the main farmhouse, and it is hard to spot any other civilisation even with its sweeping views of the countryside. It is an eco cottage with no mains electricity - it is instead supplied from a wind turbine and has batteries as a backup, as well as a petrol generator for windless days. It doesn't have any high consumption items, even the kettle is heated on the gas hob. The heating is from a woodburning stove which was lit when i arrived. It burns logs fast, they need replacing every 30 mins or so, but there is a large store outside, though these are exposed and some were wet or damp. It was really hard to light the fire when it went out - it took a lot of time feeding it with newspaper and twigs and I think the logs were damp which didn't help - a lesson on how to do it better would have been helpful. The instructions on how to use the three levers and knob on the fire differed between a) what the owner said, b) what the instructions in the manual said, and c) what other guest comments said... Some consistency would be very helpful. It is the only source of heat and as it goes out an hour after being fed, it could get very cold indoors at night if the weather was cold."

"Cottage is in a beautiful position with fantastic views. We did have an issue with the electric fuse box which is in the living room on the wall above the TV which for the first 3 days buzzed loudly when the night tariff kicked in at 1.30am and didn't stop until 8.15am. We reported this fault to the owner;s sister on the morning of the 2nd day unfortunately the owner wasn't there until late evening. The owner did come across to the cottage early on the 3rd day and did manage to get her electrician out on the Monday and the problem was fixed, it was just unfortunate that the problem occurred at the weekend as I am sure it would have been rectified earlier.Jo the owner did make gesture of compensation of £60 via yourselves which I am more than delighted with.I have to say that I rented a cottage as a relaxing treat for a friend and gave her the master bedroom and it was she that suffered the faulty fuse box the most as the vibration and noise was felt and heard from that room."

"This was such a good week! The weather forecast had been so full of doom and gloom-indeed it was very cold every night with ground frost most mornings-but the sun shone every day and we were able to walk from the door as we'd hoped to do. The network of footpaths close by is extensive in every direction and what wonderful countryside it is! The cottage, being detached and elevated, is just ideal. We loved the spacious living room, finding the chairs comfy and felt very much at home. The beds were fine, the temperature plummeted overnight so we did leave the ticking-over. No doubt when the trees are in full leaf there would be less light in the living room, but we found it very homely and comfortable, especially when the log fire was burning. The TV worked, kitchen equipment no problem-except the fridge hadn't been de-frosted for many a month and that was a job I had to do on arrival."

"A very compact cottage in a great countryside location, distant from neighbours. The cottage is accessed up a farm track a couple of 100 m long, but this sets it up and above the owner's house. Despite being called an "eco" cottage it's really quite comfortable, bottled gas provides for the cooking and wood for the burner does heating and hot water. Perhaps some more effort could be made to keep the draughts out (both doors and windows let the cold air in). The lounge was smaller than I expected, it's really just the small area shown at the bottom of the stairs, but this does mean that you have to sit close to the fire. There were only two of us in the cottage, I think it would have been very cramped with more than 2 adults."

"Lovely little cottage! Julie took our call at past midnight because we couldn't find it on arrival - that's service for you! Thank you. The surroundings are beautiful and it helped that the weather was wonderful. Would love to come back for longer next time.My only constructive criticism is that, having spent many years travelling in many different countries around the world, that the english are the meanest in terms of giving you anything for free! some tea/coffee would have been appreciated after a long journey and I forgot my wash bag but there was nothing in the bathroom. No hair dryer. Just stuff that doesn't cost very much but make a big difference. Anyway that's just my thoughts. X"
