Staying in Berwick-upon-Tweed

Berwick’s ties to Scotland remain close, and it has the dubious honor of being the only English town to have a team playing in the Scottish professional football leagues. Why not take in a match on your last minute cottage holiday? On May 1st of each year, a celebration of Berwick’s unique town boundaries takes place with a cavalcade of horsemen and women riding through the town. Make sure not to miss it! Much of Berwick’s attractions are based around its past, and there are many walks on offer which give a awesome sense of Berwick’s place in the history between the two now united kingdoms. However, for how much longer? SnapTrip also recommend the numerous contemporary outdoor pursuits on offer in Berwick, as the town has a great selection of activities available such as horse-riding, sailing, shooting and cycling to keep you entertained on your last minute cottage break.

"A good week - excellent weather helped. We spent most of our leisure time in the conservatory. The main living room was dark and the settees were very uncomfortable. It was a shame there was no tv in the conservatory. Luckily I am tall as my wife and our friend could not reach any of the items in the kitchen top cupboards. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable. The shower was excellent. I was a bit surprised that there was nothing left from the previous people. Every cottage we have stayed in before always has some food or mild left behind. Luckily we arrived mid-afternoon so was able to go to ASDA in Berwick. Easy to get to anywhere in the county with the A1 not far away. I parked at the back of the cottage when we arrived and hit a stone that was difficult to see on the way out. Hence I parked at the front after that. A £340 bill for the scratch put a bit of a dampener on the week. I put a note in the book to let other holidaymakers know about the stone. The pub was OK but none of the villagers would speak to us ‘outsiders’. Other than those points, it was a good holiday. We will return to Northumberland or the Borders, but not to that particular cottage."

"After looking for somewhere to stay whilst working away, and spending lots of time in hotels. I noticed S14501 whilst searching and was surprised to see the price was around the same as hotels near by. Being Vegan I always struggle to find hotels that can provide me with food I can eat, so being able to cook my own food was a massive plus. The kitchen was well equipped for cooked although some of the utensils needed cleaning before use. The cottage was very spacious and the bedrooms and bathroom very clean. The living space could have been cleaner as lots of crumbs and old food on the carpets and under the sofas. Very close to a local Asda and other shops, so nipping out to pick up anything was easy. Overall I had a very good experience at S14501. The minor cleanliness issue twinned with the heating not being on for my arrival which left the house very cold for the first night, are the only issues I have. I would definitely stay here again."

"We had a 2 week break with some changes to the occupancy from week 1 to week 2. The owners couldn't have been more helpful in providing changes of bedding and little touches such as getting out the trundle bed which our 3 year old granddaughter loved rather than the higher bed which she could have fallen out of. Large buckets and spades were left out for the older grandchildren who came the first week and a smaller set for the 3 year old the 2nd week. We loved sitting out in the garden, the freedom to do the washing and hang it out to dry, bake quiches and cakes with grandchildren. The views are spectacular and we loved the beaches. All the facilities were there. We were made to feel very welcome in a delightful home from home and heartily recommend this property to anyone looking for a holiday in Northumberland."

"We were initially pleased with the parking bay however inside was less impressive particularly the persistent smell of gas in the cooking area, more strong first thing in the morning. On the top floor the room was spacious and comfortable but spoiled by the condensation inside the large velux style windows the frames of which were severely corroded and had regularly leaked leaving many unsightly rust stains both below and around the frames. The cleanliness of the toilets left much to be desired and the fact that several table lamps had either failed bulbs or even no bulb at all was disappointing when simple care could have vastly improved the residential experience in a well positioned apartment with super beach views and great access to the beach."
