"This is a rural hideaway cottage, which reflects the eco-friendly aspirations of the owner, and has French windows opening onto a large area of private woodland, awash with bluebells (May) and birdlife. We were given a warm and friendly welcome and told that, if we needed anything, we just needed to knock at the door. There are no shops or pubs in the immediate vicinity, but there is a farm shop 10 minutes' drive away and an excellent pub in the picturesque (and much filmed) village of Chilham also about 10 minutes' drive away - we did walk to Chilham through lovely country lanes, but you need to set aside a couple of hours for that. It was a great base from which to explore Kent (there were plenty of relevant maps, books and brochures in the cottage) - our favourite places being Canterbury and its lovely cathedral, Whitstable and Faversham, plus the National Trust properties at Chartwell, Sissinghurst Castle and the White Cliffs of Dover. If you enjoy country lanes, landscape and nature, then this makes for a very convenient and homely base with adequate kitchen and bathroom facilities - and a very comfortable bed!"

"Very nice cottage, with charming Battle village about 3 min drive away, and great food at the local pub, Squirrel Inn, only 1 min drive away. Large garden available for the cottage, and owners offered both fruits and fresh eggs. Very friendly owners.Great starting point for visiting the area: Bexhill, Hastings, Bodiam Castle and Rye all within half an hour drive and the whole 1066 county available. To be aware of:The cottage is only a meter away from a road where the speed limit is 60mph (95km/h). As it is an old cottage, there is some traffic noise noticeable inside. However easily solved with ear plugs during night/morning if you are a light sleeper. The entrance from the road is not well visible from the west, but solved with a mirror on the other side of the road to get better view of the traffic. The cottage is generally clean, but could need a season-cleaning. This was mostly some dust and spider webs where there were little motion (in corners, below chairs, ceiling etc). Cutlery, dishes and plates could also be checked. One more washing up and it was all fine."

"The cottage has everything you could possibly need for a self catering property, even board games and a selection of dvds. We were disappointed that the pool was not in use as it should have been available until September, we left on 1st, however the weather was not really suitable for using an outdoor pool. The other minor irritation was the shower it was either scalding hot or freezing. the beach was a lot further than we had anticipated so we elected to drive, good location for visiting Rye, Hastings and Camber Sands and the New Inn serves really good food and has a nice walled garden.we enjoyed our stay but would not return with our grandchildren as it is a very old property with steep stairs and has very little insulation which means you can hear everything which is not great with young children also the bathroom is downstairs. The girls loved there stay but were disappointed about the pool. It would be ideal for me and my husband on our own."

"Lovely place to stay. Very clean with everything you need for your holiday. I had a bit of an accident whilst at Bewl Water and unfortunately, it did have an impact on our 3 day short break as I had to spend a day at the Conquest hospital A&E followed by an appointment at East Grinstead the following day (fractured eye socket) but Jenny (owner) was amazing and turned up with a couple of bottles of wine to soften the blow. We would definitely return to stay at S81028 as it's in a really good location for getting around and about and the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome (toiletries, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee etc). It's only about 10 mins drive to Bodiam Castle, not far from Bewl Water (although mind the tree roots!), a short drive from Hastings and not far at all from Battle. Yes, we will definitely be returning."

"The cottage is in a perfect position, close to the beach and the high street, yet far enough back to be quiet. The cottage is beautifully decorated, yet I fear there is a degree of style over substance. The red sofa in the dining room is very uncomfortable and hence we never sat on it after the first go. The chairs in the living room are equally not the most comfortable. The lack of a dishwasher is a real shame, especially if you come with children (which the cottage is otherwise well set up for). I know space is tight but as someone who stays in many cottages this is a real down side. The drainage needs sorting. The fact that the green waste floods the path and then street is embarrassing and unpleasant to walk in."
