"We chose this cottage over others because it had internet: we have a 10 year old son who has a daily ration and we also needed to use it for information about the local area etc. However, the owners had just changed provider and needless to say it didn't work. The cottage info handbook had not been updated and so began a text to owners/email to service providers/visit to the cottage by the owners to try and put it right. However, it didn't get fixed, so we wasted lots of time and although the owners were apologetic and very nice they never offered us any token of compensation. Our son was disappointed and we were inconvenienced.Another disappointment was the old 'tube in the back' style tv, whose screen flickered and which was simply uncomfortable to watch, so we didn't. The cottage appeared plush on arrival but staying there for a few days it felt like the cottage had been left to go tired - it looks plush n posh so it'll be alright..that'll do.The windows in the master bedroom sounded like a set of bagbipes in the wind - and it was very windy, the plug mechanism in the bathroom sink didn't work so you had to empty out using fingers, there were posh plates etc in the kitchen but no foil, cling film or kitchen roll provided, both twin beds in the childrens' room were uncomfortable because you could feel the springs through the mattresses and even some of the pillows were lumpy! If the owners ever spent a night/morning there, it was a long time ago. We just felt like a money making opportunity on the side, which began with the owner turning up at the front door saying, 'Have you got firewood, I don't know if there's firewood, have they left firewood, let me know if you need any..?' There were no comments in the visitor's book since October 2017 - maybe people, like us, didn't want to express their disappointment that way. However, we must say that the heating was always on and the hot water was constant and abundant."

"Location practically right on the Saltmarsh beach is perfect. This cottage has also the unique feature of a sea view from almost every room in the house. Powfoot itself is very quiet and tranquil and very friendly, but only a five minute drive from anything you could ever want but you do need a car and to remember the strict driving laws in Scotland. There are no shops or pubs but one cracking hotel with bar and class restaurant within walking distance. Only one small bus a day public transport but Taxis are easy and plentiful from nearby Annan. We were blessed with good weather, but given the position of the cottage on the beach I’d imagine wild and windy or better still a snowy and frosty Winters day would be spectacular and magical in this cosy cottage. The Lake District , Glasgow, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Newcastle and even Ireland are all accessible from Powfoot. It’d be a shame to miss all the local activities and little gems of places of interest nearby though- The Devils Portidge Museum, The Burns Trail , Outlet Shopping at Gretna, nearby Distillery, John Paul Jones ( founder of U.S navy) museum, walking , hill climbing loads of sailing and water activities- waterjetting a la James Bond style are really just a few. The Creighton at Dumfries a must. Lots and lots to see and do in this often unexplored corner of Scotland. Too much to fit into one week you will want to return ."

"Probably the most beautiful building and incredible location we've stayed in. Perfect for walking the dog, close to beaches and lovely views from the lounge. Lots of lovely touches such as quaint lampshades/cushions etc and bathrooms and bed were very clean. On the downside, it was very cramped with lots of unnecessary extras... Like 144 cookery books in the kitchen... And a very dusty spice rack with some spices dating back to 2007... Also, for practicality, we would have preferred hard floors as we had to vacuum every day because of our very hairy little dog. Would have been easier to keep clean with hard floors. We could actually smell dog when we got there - particularly up the stairs (and dogs aren't allowed upstairs...)Finally, really cheap soap and shower gel seemed out of place in such a lovely place. Perhaps if they had been dispensed into nice containers, we might not have noticed...We did have a lovely, relaxing week there however and would recommend it if these issues were addressed."

"The house is charming and in a beautiful location. We found it very clean and it is well equipped throughout and we didn't have any difficulty in soon being very comfortable. There are two open fires to use if you want, we did, and they were lovely in the evening. The house is warm and cosy even if you don't want to light the fires. The owners have provided some very interesting information about the house and it's history and also about the local area, with places to visit and walks etc. Well worth reading! There is a pretty garden where a variety of birds can be seen, and a red squirrel was spotted too! We ( 2 couples) all enjoyed the walk to Gatehouse, which is about 10 minutes away, and has a well-stocked Spar supermarket for everyday needs. There are several places to eat and drink in the village, we didn't try them all but enjoyed the Masonic Arms pub both for drinks and food. There is much to see in the area and we hope to return to S23663 to explore further!Highly recommended."

"Lovely cottage but the beds were extremely uncomfortable and left us with aching backs. Very hot at night due to storage heating but not so warm early evening when sat watching TV, couldn't find key to open bedroom window either. Oven could be cleaner and I do so hate having to wash things before I can use them, glasses and crockery laid on table with the remnants of porridge on them so ignoring the dishwasher (pet hate) I used hot, soapy water and they came up a treat. Having said all that the cottage is very well equipped, very spacious, well presented, and we would definitely go again if some of the issues were addressed. The view is incredible, the village lovely, warm friendly locals, and great walks along the firth. We had a most enjoyable time and the dogs had a great time running around like lunatics, so yes, overall a great place to stay."
