"We had a fantastic week at S85198, 3 adults stayed and it was comfortable with enough space for us all (would be a bit tight for 5 adults). The village amenities were right on our doorstep, as was a lovely 3 mile walk around Grasmere Lake. It's easy to get to all the local attractions. The local bus service runs frequently if needed. We enjoyed a couple of walks with the Lake District park rangers (highly recommended). We also visited Glen Riding - ferry to Aira Falls and walked the lake back, went to Bowness and took the ferry to Ferry House and then walked to Beatrix Potter's house, walked around Rydal and Grasmere areas, visited the cinema at Ambleside (with meal deal at Zeferelli's). All restaurants and pubs we went to were great, in Grasmere we particularly liked the relaxed Goody Blakes. Curators at all the historic sites were friendly and informative. The cottage had mostly all we could ask for. In terms of improvements I would recommend adding fans to the bedrooms (it's too hot at present) and sheets for the beds, we ended up sleeping under the duvet covers and even this was a bit too warm. Nice basic touches would be to supply some black bin liners and basic condiments, herbs and spices in the kitchen. The TV reception is a bit hit and miss, husband ended up watching the World Cup Football in the pub (not that he complained)! There's no wifi, though you can pick up 3G, 4G and BTWifi if you have an account. The directions to the cottage need to be a bit more detailed at the final stage. However, none of that really mattered, we loved the Lake District and the cottage and hope to return one day."

"The cottage was clean & tidy on our arrival. However, the cottage could do with some refurbishment and I for one would be prepared to pay more for that privilege. The bathroom was a huge waste of valuable bedroom space and could be made en-suite very easily. The shower over the bath could disappear and a proper shower cubicle could easily fit in the bathroom. The furniture in all the bedrooms was basic and in need of renewal. Not sure what you could do about it but the stairs to the top floor were difficult and dangerous. There is a need for a downstairs W.C. The property is meant for 7 people so this is not an unreasonable expectation. Lounge was adequate but the kitchen could do with a total refurbishment. The cooker top does its own thing (being electric) and the oven is untameable. I have got used to much better quality accommodation and was disappointed with this cottage. Myself and my family will not be back here until it has been refurbished. I'm sorry if this sounds offensive, - it is not meant to be but I believe that it is better to be honest. A lick of more inviting colour on the outside window and door frames would do much to lift the kerb appeal. The photographs on line flatter the property. Location is good and this would encourage a return stay if/when the property is refurbished. Housekeeping could be more diligent as we found three broken glasses hidden in the utility room - on a window ledge which is below counter height, beneath pile of tea towels. We were lucky not to injure ourselves on these. Fortunately, the beauty of the area was undiminished by the sub standard accomodation."

"West View and Ambleside was a good choice as a base for our holiday in the Lake District. The property is well kept, has everything you need and is presented really well. Ambleside has almost everything you need with exception of a large supermarket. This isn't much of a problem as Windermere (15 minutes drive) has a Booths supermarket or you can shop online and have it delivered the day you arrive as we did.Bus routes to most locations and connections in the Lake District are just a 2 minute walk up the road which is really handy for the days you don't want to use the car. You also have walks that start from Ambleside or very close by which was also useful.Only negative was the narrow access to parking. Not a problem as such if you know the size of your car and once you've figured out angles for reversing out of the space it's not a problem, just a word of warning!"

"S85198 was really comfortable and had a well equipped kitchen. Loved the larder under the stairs! It was great to sit in the garden and admire the gorgeous view of the hills. Parking right outside was a bonus too. The tv reception wasn't great for some of the channels but there was a DVD player - great to watch a film in the evening after a hard day walking! Towels provided in each of the bedrooms and tea towels provided in the kitchen too. The bed on the top floor was one of the most comfortable I've slept on and the view from the windows of this room was just breath taking. No wifi in the property though which may be an issue for some - my teenage daughter missed it - the rest of us didn't! Location of the cottage meant we could leave the car behind and just walk for the day - perfect."

"What a treat! The grounds are superb and the property sits high over the water so the views are outstanding. The wardens were warm and welcoming. There are great facilities including local farm deliveries, so it's perfect place for taking it easy.Reading previous reviews I was worried about the kitchen, and yes it is small but functional. I wouldn't cook a Sunday roast in it (there's a great pub called Tower Bank Arms at Near Sawrey for that), but for day to day cooking it's no problem. The rooms were all very comfortable and with 4 adults sharing, having 3 bathrooms was a great help.We enjoyed watching the local wildlife, boating on the water and having a homely place to come back to after our days walking and touristing."
