"The cottage was lovely, but I had to go in and Hoover and polish, empty the fire and rinse the bath out! (The bath water was a very yellow colour) their was long dark hair in the master bedroom, none of my family are dark, so wasn't from us! I dont except to pay hundreds for a holiday to then go in and have to clean up on the first day! The bed in the master bedroom was very unfomy! The slats are not attach underneath so fall through constantly, i tryed to put them back on but cut my finger in the process. Their was a broken table in the living room, which was just balancing with a broken leg, lucky my husband noticed as it was sharp, the blankets in the living room absoulty stunk of dogs, I had to wash them all befor my children touched them. The blind that I assume was ment to be up in the kitchen was just rolled up and balancing over the top of the fire place in the kitchen leaving the cord just hanging down, the other blinds just had their cords hanging down aswell (very dangerous when you have children!) Theirs very little cupboard space and the kitchen table was very wobblerly (my husband had to tighten it all up) the track leading down to the cottage is very uneven and bumpy, please go very slowly or you may damage your car. On a plus side the views are beautiful and the farmer and the chickens are very friendly. Lots of nice walks near by."

"The Gin Gang was situated perfectly for exploring the lovely area. The building looked fabulous but was very difficult to get into with a step up of over 12 inches.Once inside, again it looked lovely but turned out to be extremely impractical. The table top cooker had two hot plates just inches below a cupboard above not allowing the lid to go on the only saucepan. The kitchen towel had a large hole in it and I wouldn't have left it in the cottage if I was the owner. The furniture layout meant you couldn't watch television without getting a crick in the neck. It needed a lot more thought for comfort and practical useage. The bedroom was beautiful after going up three steps but due to furniture choice there was only a gap of about 10 to 12 inches to get between the bed and a wardrobe to access the bathroom.Outside there was a table and seating but was in a poor condition to make a good impression. For us it was very disappointing for the money. We are very sorry to have to give this type of feed back. We are not people to find fault but it is such that we could n't recommend it to others."

"We had a lovely new year at S18279. 3 out of the 4 bedrooms are plenty large enough for travel cots and the beds were comfortable. The best area is the kitchen diner, very modern and plenty of room for 8 adults and 3 babies at the table. there's plenty of crockery, pots and pans and utensils. A very well stocked kitchen however only one oven shelf made it very difficult to cook for everyone so the owners could perhaps invest in another shelf to make this a lot easier for large groups to cook meals to enjoy at the cottage. It was great to have the utility area and downstairs toilet plus extra shower. The area was lovely. Very quiet, few nice pubs, cafes and shops. The living room was cosy and nice garden and balconies for use in better weather. The sofas are probably past their shelf life but other than that a nice space. There's a small unloading area outside the cottage but then you have to park your car in the town free car park. Not a major issue unless everyone arrives at once but something to mention as it's not on the spec. All in all we had a lovely time thank you."

"This is the best cottage we have stayed in. Inside it is spacious and cosy and very clean and comfortable. The Bedding was immaculate and the location is beautiful. If you like star gazing it is the ideal location for you, as it gets very dark at night and you can see everything in the nights sky. If you have dogs and you like long walks there are plenty of walks for you to enjoy. The only negative point I would mention is the chickens that are literally everywhere. While I love the countryside and seeing chickens that are free to roam around on their own, they were a bit of a nuisance. We spent the whole 2 weeks trying to stop our dog from going for them as they kept coming in the garden. I have not reflected this in the scores as this is not the fault of the owners and it really is a beautiful place. Just be aware that it’s situated on a working farm so if your dog likes to chase livestock or is not impeccably behaved then it could be an issue. Overall though it’s a 10 from us. We are already planning on returning very soon."

"Three of us, plus one dog spent a long weekend at the cottage in February. The cottage is about a five minute walk outside Alston. There is a small parking space right outside the front door for one (smallish) car.As we had two cars between us we had to park on the road. Initially this did not go down well with the neighbours opposite, but we moved further up the road away from the property. The cottage is lovely and cosy with wood burning stove and instant hot water. The second bedroom has limited headroom and a small bath with hand held shower. My friend ended up using the main bedroom en-suite for showering, as that has a standard sized bath and no headroom issues. The second bedroom would be good for children, but is not ideal for adults. There is a great deli in Alston and an Indian takeaway that was very good. Most of the more interesting shops were closed until the spring season. We enjoyed a relaxing time at the cottage, and were delighted by the bottle of wine, water and biscuits (including some for the dog) left for us."
