"Lovely cottage let down by the kitchen. The bedrooms, living room and dining room were all lovely with some nice quirky features. However, it seemed as if the owners hadn't got round to updating the kitchen yet. We stayed over Christmas and although the weather was quite mild the kitchen was freezing - even with both ovens going. There is a radiator but it's round a corner by the back door and had no effect on the kitchen at all. For a property marketed to sleep 8-10 people the stock of kitchenware and utensils was inadequate: not enough wine glasses for 6 people; no highballs etc, just a few mismatched tumblers. No oven gloves!(had to buy our own) Only 2 tea towels provided for a 4 night stay (had to buy extra). Plenty of knives, forks and spoons but not a lot else. Tin opener useless (had to buy our own). The cleanliness of the kitchen was also not great (the rest of the property was fine) - cutlery, plates and pans had obviously just been taken out of the dishwasher and put away without being checked and most were dirty. Such a shame that a lovely property was let down by poor basic standards and hopefully it was just down to the owners being new to holiday letting. One final thing - it needs to be highlighted in the cottage description that there is a steep set of stairs between the kitchen and the dining room (just so people are prepared to have to carry their Christmas dinner from one floor to the next). We would happily stay again (despite the kitchen gripes) as the location is great - nice local pubs, walks and a well stocked co-op round the corner."

"While the location is perfect, Budle Bay only 50yds away, stunning walks round to Bamburgh, this area is beautiful, the best coastal area in the north by far. This cottage was a last minute idea and booking, and relatively cheap for this area, however the cottage is very dated, realistically could be great but needs a big refurbishment. The cottage wasn't particularly clean, all appliances are old, the fire surround looks like a gravestone, small holes in kitchen floor, tatty sofa (has been clawed by some kind of wild animal), the shower experience was like being in a cupboard, nice walled garden, perfect for kids safety/ BBQ's in the summer and playing football, however there was dog mess on lawn on arrival. We are not a fan of being over looked by owners / managers - the family that manage the cottage are situated above, the lady running it is relatively new and hopefully some improvements will be made, she went out of her way to provide a welcome pack which is a nice touch, unfortunately the cottage just isn't up to standard ( however as I said relatively cheap for the area) it appears this whole complex is run down. With refurbishment and cleaning, this could be a fantastic holiday experience, while we had a great break, as we said this area is fantastic, the cottage was the only let down.We have stopped in many fantastic cottages in this area, unfortunately this isn't one of them, but as we said with a bit of an upgrade could be fantastic."

"We enjoyed S44006 very much. We've given it 10 because for a 3 * cottage it was brill! The kitchen was extremely well equipped, all appliances clean and in good working order, with extras we have never found in a cottage before eg a picnic hamper, 2 picnic rugs and a complete set of utensils including a garlic crush, BBQ tools, sharp knives and a decent frying pan. We used the BBQ daily and ate almost all meals outside using the garden furniture provided. We stocked the freezer so we didn't have to spend valuable holdiday time shopping, though shops weren't far away. The walled garden was a safe ( just watch the pond) sun trap at all times of the day and evening, perfect for children and dogs. We only used the double bed but it was comfortable with attractive linen and new pillows. We used the washing machine several times - hate taking loads of laundry home- and used the line in the garden for drying. The welcome pack was very generous and much appreciated, the best we've ever had. In an ideal location, with the friendly and helpful managers above and behind but not overlooking, S44006 gave us a great week and we would certainly stay there again. Oh, and even the dog got a bag with a rug to sleep on, a towel, poo bags galore and dog shampoo. For what we paid, we certainly couldn't ask for more and hope future guests enjoy it as much as we did."

"Belford is a lovely friendly village. The Black Swan Hotel was especially welcoming. We had all the amenities of the village but were close enough to the beach and countryside too. The house was spacious and quirky and the beds we're comfortable. The layout was difficult with a flight of stairs between the kitchen and dining room and some twin rooms rather than double beds would be better for families. Our teenage girls did not appreciate sharing a bed and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. The back yard was not well cared for and there was no pleasant outdoor space. The worst aspect of the cottage was the noise of the plumbing. From the downstairs bedroom there was constant loud noise of flushing toilets and gushing water, including through the night. The first time we went to use the oven we found leftover pizza on the grill pan . The oven was not clean overall and complicated to use. We would love to return to Belford but unfortunately not in this cottage."

"The cottage is ON the A1, but once inside the cottage the road noise is minimal. The cottage is SO welcoming for dogs, the owners had thought of Everything a dog & dog owner could need. The property is safe for dogs having an enclosed garden. Our dogs were small terriers & would have found the smallest gap to 'escape', but we never had any problems. The Kitchen had just about everything you could possibly need, all in very good condition, however we did find a lack of storage space for our food.It had a large window with a wonderful view of the countryside & distant coast. You can just about see Bamburgh Castle & Holy Island with binoculars. The Lounge & 2 bedrooms were very comfy & warm . The Bathroom clean & bright & the Shower very easy to use.The owners could not have been more friendly & extremely helpful making our holiday one to remember with utmost pleasure."
