"Myself, my partner and my brother stayed at the S83698 this March for my birthday surprise. From what started off as an awful holiday (our car broke down on the way there!) soon turned into bliss. Thank you so much to the owners for picking us up from the local supermarket late in the evening, and also sending us our money that we left in the upstairs bedroom! We need honesty like that in the world! The barn itself was very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. I was a little apprehensive at first as one of the reviews mentioned that the garden was not fully enclosed for dogs. This isn't true! There are effectively two gardens: one leading up to the woods and a smaller garden on the side of the barn that is fully fenced off with decking and chairs. I could let my dog out at night to go to the toilet with no fear that he would wander off.The highlight of this barn is definitely the location. Situated in the Tamar Valley, you are about a 10 minute walk away from some of the most beautiful trails. Directly opposite the garden, there is a river trail which has a dozen waterfalls along the way as well as a few caves! The village of Gunnislake does not have much to offer. But even though we were without a car for the first three days we still found plenty of stuff to do. Along the trails we came across some old mines which was an added bonus. We could drive to a dog friendly beach in about 40 minutes. We would also definitely return as the place was excellent value for money - plus the owners were lovely! Thanks again for all your help. Caris, Eddie, Carl, and Boycie :)"

"The cottage and the owner were a delight. The cottage was so well finished and equipped that it felt more like staying at a home than a holiday rental. It was very well suited to dogs with wooden floors downstairs and a good sized balcony, not to mention the hosepipe at the bottom of the entrance stairway. Cotton linen, feather duvets, a choice of feather or synthetic pillows and good towels were a plus too.We are lucky enough to live in a very quiet, rural location: this felt like a home from home. Beautifully peaceful.I had reservations when booking about the lack of garden, but the dogs were happy with a quick trip down the lane when necessary and we spent all day walking so there were no complaints from our canine companions. There is a wonderful, traditional Devon pub a ten minute walk away and we didn't feel like we had to drive anywhere. Coincidentally we did find that all of our walks seemed to end at the pub. A map of Dartmoor was useful; there is free roaming on Dartmoor so you can just wander without the need for a walking book. There is also very helpfully a map provided on the wall of the cottage. The shower room is compact but so cleverly designed that it was not a problem. I had concerns about previous comments regarding space, especially as we are a tall family, but we will definitely return. We came home much more rested than we would normally expect after a week off. Thanks Mel!"

"We really enjoyed our stay at S84122 and it certainly matched the photos. We were very pleased with the wonderful welcome hamper that had clotted cream, jam, scones, bread, daffodils and milk in the fridge. It was a lovely welcome and we really enjoyed our cream tea. So much so we went to the farm shop to buy more scones and cream. The cottage is perfect and worked well . We had two families and a pug including three children. The estate is very well maintained and the children loved the lambs, highland cattle ,goats and all the birds and pheasants. It is a good centre to be able to explore both Devon and Cornwall. It is a very comfortable place to stay and well equipped. We were welcomed when we arrived and met when we left which was appreciated. We would highly recommend this property. Little things like the hamper and the stair gate that was put in which was very useful for our pug.We recommend going to the farm shop for their delicious pasties. They are so well filled and absolutely delicious."

"I think the location is fantastic especially if you have children - as there were so many varieties of animals and you were allowed to feed them. However the welcome book made me feel uncomfortable - we were staying in her home (no, sorry, her business). Please take your shoes off and do not wear on the carpet in the bedroom. Strip the beds when you leave. I am sure that we would not have had washing up liquid if someone had not left some behind. There was no soap in the bathroom - I would have expected that at the least. Also no dishcloth!! I knew to take towels but there are certain other bare essentials all the other cottages we have stayed in have supplied. She was extremely friendly and welcoming in person but her handbook was not."

"This cottage was located in a pretty, secluded village with little traffic and with the sound of the Milton Brook nearby and owls hooting in the trees at night, it was very restful and yet very close to Plymouth and Tavistock, with lovely places to visit nearby including The Garden House and Buckland Abbey. Although there is a good pub in the village, there is no convenience store and we had to go a little way to find a newspaper, but this was only a minor niggle and we found the cottage very comfortable and with its three floors, surprisingly spacious - everything was spotless, easy to use, and clearly labelled - wish we could have stayed longer. The owners were very welcoming and helpful."
