"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"We had a good holiday at Hall Barn but would not go again because of the very squeaky floor boards. The whole of the upstairs floor creaks as one walks on it which disturbs the whole of the rest of the house especially as all of the doors have spaces around them and some rooms even have large openings above the doors. This also meant all lights had to be out at night. In order for everyone to be happy we all had to go to bed at the same time and try not to have to move around at all until the next morning. We loved the location with good walks and fine views. We enjoyed the pool table. There was plenty of space for parking. The rubbish disposal was very efficient with very clear instructions and facilities for recycling. The cooking facilities were fine, although the hobs were a little slow, and there was plenty of crockery and cooking dishes and pans. Most rooms had good storage space but a couple had rather inconvenient or small wardrobes. The place is very spacious and a joy to be in with plenty of tables and chairs, both upright ones and relaxing ones. It is light and airy and there are plenty of games to play and videos to watch."

"A party of 3.. Myself, husband and close friend, we all enjoyed a lovely four day break.Stag View is very nice and spacious, has everything you could possibly need. Very comfortable!Beautiful view of the woods at the rear of the house. Where you can sometimes see the stags grazing. The local Square & Compass Pub was very friendly and the food was excellent and at reasonable prices.Plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas.. Bakewell with good shops, cafes & restaurants and beautiful walks along the river. Matlock also has a good selection of shops and cafes, tea shops and restaurants. The Garden centre's in Matlock and Ashbourne are also worth a visit, both with very nice coffee shops. We're all looking forward to going back again next year!"

"We really enjoyed our week in Hall Barn despite the very mixed weather! The barn was very warm , comfortable, well equipped and when working the hot water/showers were good. The first day we experienced freezing coldwater but next day the local agent temporarily fixed this but we did have to keep resetting it. Hope it gets fixed for the next guests. The BBQ needs an overhaul but it didn't bother us as the weather wasn't good enough! We spent a couple cosy nights playing board game/watching films with the log fire going and there was no shortage of pubs/restaurants to eat out. We liked Buxton and had couple of excellent joints from the butcher there........The dogs loved it and there was plenty of room for a group plus the dogs."

"Cottage was clean and tidy ...well laid out kitchen ....good modern white goods and cooker . Could have done with one larger pot for spaghetti .....plus some extra glasses , four of everything was not always enough in glassware Beds and bedding very comfortable ... Good to have a downstairs loo as well as two upstairs Almost certainly needs a second set of towels ...one hand towel for the week in all bathrooms was inadequate as was the one bath towel per individual ....I would suggest two of each .Sun lounge and patio garden were a great addition to the property (in good weather)Well centred for the village but located in a quiet residential street .It met all our holiday expectations and I would be happy to visit again"
