"We were a group of friends staying at the cottage for 1 weekend. The cottage itself is stunning and the views and surrounding area are perfect. The hot tub was lovely and the outdoor BBQ was fab. We were greeted by Roy, who spent at least 40 minutes showing us around the cottage, which was fine, we expected this as we had seen other reviews. We were given instructions on how to use everything including putting more chlorine in the hot tub when we had finished using it that evening. The cottage itself could do with a really good clean, whilst it wasn't grubby, things like hovering under the beds and sofa's , the cutlery draw was full of bits, the games room had a large amount of cobwebs and dead spiders and flies in it. At the end of the first evening, we topped up the hot tub with chlorine, as instructed. However the next morning, Roy (who lives an hour away!) let himself into the back garden and topped it up with more chlorine! We therefore didn't risk using the hot tub until later that afternoon. Later that evening (the Saturday...and our last night at the cottage) Roy tuned up again and rang the doorbell, to advise us that we had left the air hockey table on the day before, that the hot tub was being used by too many people and asked us to "keep the boys in check". We all found him rather intrusive. Before the regular checking up visits by Roy, a few of us had intended to return to the cottage with our children, however due to the intrusive nature of the owner, we have decided against it,. It's a shame because it really is a lovely place and with a good clean and some privacy it would have been perfect. There are also 3 cottages for couples very close to this large cottage, which the details do not mention. I assume they have shared use of the games room (which is located in a separate building and not in the cottage itself) as there was no key for the door. Also the boiler wasn't working when we were there so there was no hot water available in the downstairs bathroom or any of the taps. In fairness, we didn't phone the owner to tell him as we didn't want to have any more of our short time at the cottage used up so the 8 of us showered using the 2 upstairs electric showers."

"Unbeknownst to me, and having started at the wrong end of Appledore's esplanade, I found myself at the front door next to the 'cottage' I had stayed in with my son a few years ago !Forget 'fisherman's cottage' and think Homes and Gardens. Upon opening the door you will look into a world of elegant tones, wonderful views and everything you might need to make your stay enjoyable. Having the river, in high tide, lapping against your holiday home is sheer bliss . Blessed as I was with sunny days and just the call of the birds breaking a relaxing silence, I could not have wished for more. When the tide drops, spits of river bed are exposed and the sea birds, waders and egrets come in to rest bathe and feed upon what might have been exposed or left by the fleeing tide. I had the best amount of birds to watch and had to buy new binoculars as I had left mine at home !My greatest joy was to hear and then see Curlew, that I had recently read, have been placed on the 'RED LIST', it is tragic that we continue to lose species.I find Appledore the most soporific place and the people so friendly. A first morning trip to the newsagents, tucked away in a back street, and I am greeted by a lovely lady who recognises me, and we start were we left off, Mrs A had her hip done, working news about the shipyard ( famous and from the 1800's. has announced it will close, due to lack of orders. A severe blow ) yes, the winter was ok, have you come down for the Literary Festival, Mrs B's shop is closing and there is still a queue up the street when the Fish and Chip shop is open.Bidefords is very close with a branch of the excellent Morrisons and Barnstable is 15 to 20 mins away. All in all, one of those holiday stays when you do not want to come home and the thoughts of could I make the move will rove around in your head whilst you stay. And finally, I was to be seen lying on the pavement in front of Estate Agents window, sobbing, having just seen the prices and the properties available !I must add my thanks to the owners for such a lovely welcome hamper and a delicious bottle of wine. I toasted them with my thanks and good health."

"On entering the cottage, I wasn't too happy. The cottage looked old and jaded. However, it grows on you and the first impressions forgotten. The owner was helpful and showed us around, only to find that the house is like a maze! The lounge is spacious and well appointed. The dinning hall has two dinning tables and also a bench to look outside the window which gives the view of the fields. The kitchen has all the equipments necessary. However, it can be a lot cleaner. We made sure that we washed all items before using them. Wasn't too thrilled about this. The bedrooms are clean with neat duvets, sheets and other linen. The bathrooms do the job but the locks on the door don't work. Kinda tricky if you are going in a big group. The garden behind the cottage is large and has a place for BBQ. The hot tub is excellent and a good place to chill out. The front of the cottage also has a huge place where kids can run around. The cottage is located in a quiet place and overlooks green beautiful fields! The games room does the job. You can spend a few hours here. If we overlook the cleanliness aspect in the kitchen, this place great to stay. Great location, large enough for big groups and you can relax full on. You don't need to go out to do anything if you take with you some board games, cards, etc. I'd recommend the place to all."

"It's been a few weeks since we spent our Easter holiday at Deepwell Barn, and I've been meaning to find the time to write a few words about our experience. The cottage was a great base to explore the area. We live in Hull, so Devon and Cornwall are quite a long drive away. We easily visited places of interest local to the cottage and farther afield. For all intents and purposes the cottage is a new build within an existing barn structure, which is great. Everything being like a new home, but with the charm of an old building. That said the barn has been converted to a very high standard, and being from a construction background, I spent a lot of time admiring the quality of the joinery. The cottage had everything we could possibly need, and the welcome pack left by the owners was a very nice touch.Whilst the cottage is in a very rural landscape, within ten minutes you're in the centre of Bideford with all the shops and facilities you could possibly need. All in all we had a great time, and we would highly recommend a holiday there."

"Beautiful location. Cottage had all we needed and the walled garden was just out of this world! So appreciated fresh vegetables on a daily basis. Staying early September, with no instructions on how to get the heaters in the property to work, the property was a little cold for my elderly parents. We did not seem to b3 able toget cold water out of the taps without running it for many minutes as I think the cold feed ran alongside the hot. This meant we had to put tap water in the fridge to get it to the required temperature.Lack of Internet was a real problem if you need to work and television reception was very poor.I would stay again tomorrow because the location was beautiful and a wonderful place to escape from the pressures of life in general. The vegetables in the walled garden were such an added bonus, any other problems in life just faded away!!"
