"Well-appointed cottage set in a very pretty location. The roaming peacocks and grouse were particularly lovely. Unfortunately the cottage was let down slightly by poor cleanliness (a lot of cobwebs and a smell of urine in the bathroom) and some of the equipment/furniture not in full working order (tin opener broken and fridge setting not right meaning our bottle of welcome milk turned sour before we were able to use it). We also asked for a travel cot and high chair for our baby, and fortunately we didn’t need to use the high chair as rather disappointingly it was absolutely filthy and clearly had not been cleaned for some time (if ever!) The cottage is very cosy, only three rooms in total; kitchen and lounge area, bedroom and bathroom. This is fine for a couple but we found it a bit of a squeeze with our baby, especially as access to the bathroom is through the bedroom so once we had put our little one to bed we had to be careful when walking through from the lounge and using the bathroom facilities in case of waking him. You can clearly see why this cottage has had so many good reviews, it has real character and has been sympathetically decorated with the wood burner etc. If the minor issues were rectified we would certainly return."

"The cottage is pretty and in a delightful location, with peacocks at the door. However, although we knew that it would be small, it proved almost unworkable, for the following reasons:1. Very little storage space in the bedroom and it was not possible to 'live out of a case' as there was nowhere to place them safely;2. No food storage space in the kitchen at all. We solved this by putting some of the kitchen equipment on top of high cupboards;3. Numerous cushions on the bed and sofa which were not needed and it was hard to find places to put them;4. The softest bed I have ever encountered, causing back problems;5. The roof leaked when it rained;6. Kitchen table was broken (although this was fixed after we complained)7. Shower rail was very fragile and we worried about breaking it;8. Very poor lighting in living area - the cottage was dark even in midsummer and there was nowhere with adequate light for reading;9. No openable windows, so cottage became stuffy and would have been unbearable in hot weather. We couldn't leave the front door open because of an inquisitive peacock."

"First of all I need to qualify a couple of my answers above. The main reason we would not stay at Button Cottage again is that we have spent several holidays in Northumberland over the years and love it. However it is a 5 hour journey from home and there are other parts of the country to explore. Secondly, I gave a 10 for amenities by which I mean within a 5 mile radius. No amenities in the immediate vicinity of the cottage. To say that Button Cottage is 'bijou' is an understatement! Nowhere to put clothes, bags or even food in the kitchen. I appreciate there was no-where to put a wardrobe or drawers in the bedroom but living out of a suitcase and falling over ones bags is not ideal. Also in the kitchen there were cupboards for china, glasses etc but none for storage of dry goods. On the positive side, the location was lovely - quiet and peaceful. Loved the peacocks and guinea fowl in the garden! The bed was soooo comfortable and a brilliant shower. We did enjoy our week and managed to visit all the sites we had hoped to see!"

"The cottage was full of old cobwebs that I’m sure could have been vacuumed away. There were dead flies all over window sill. It could have been the time of year but there where also huge spiders crawling the walls. The bed was uncomfortable with the mattress pretty much collapsing on itself with body weight - and I am only a small build. I found a black hair on the pillow on arrival (we are both blonde) which made me question if the sheets had actually been changed from the previous occupants. The second evening I found cobwebs near my pillow. The location of the cottage was good - a 10min car ride from Alnwick. The kitchen had a good range of utensils, pots and pans (although we took our own) and the mini hamper was a nice touch. It is a shame about the cleanliness as it was a really lovely cottage. For this reason we wouldn’t be going back for a second stay."

"We loved our stay at Casa Nostro, the cottage really does have everything.... books, dvd's, board games, children's indoors and outdoors toys and a fully equipped kitchen. There were no issues during our stay. If I had to say anything about the property I would just say the room with the bunk beds is through the living room, kitchen and dining room away from the other bedrooms and has some damp. Also the kitchen although has everything only has one cuboard for you to put your own things. There is so much there you have to leave your food on the side which isn't ideal. There are more glasses than a pub!Overall we enjoyed a fantastic family holiday. With a supermarket and lovely pub within walking distance and all the fabulous attractions of Northumberland within easy reach via car."
