"Excellent location. Great space. Well equipped. Parking spaces. Garden. Our group was a parent, 3 older children plus grandparents. However, this property was not to our satisfaction and I would not stay again. I would advise people to carefully read previous reviews so that their expectations are realisticextremely booking this property. The house is in a fantastic location and has good facilities with plenty of space but it needs attention to detail. Yes it has now been painted (a previous review recommended this) and there was a little welcome crate. But at least 2 of the mattresses were old and extremely uncomfortable with no mattress protector. Bedding, duvets and pillows were clean but linen was old, some was stained and everything was "well washed". Just replace them! Towels too. Sofas were really dusty. 2nd living room had a smell which we couldn't quite place so we didn't use it much, even with all the windows open. Old and musty? Those tatty curtains in the single upstairs room were still hanging by a thread (again in a previous review). But the big thing for us is that grandparent number 3 wasn't able to stay the night with us because the downstairs single room was extremely damp. Top freezer tray is broken and sharp. The carpets, especially the stairs, are very dirty (my children's white socks were black after about 5 mins). All these things have been mentioned in past reviews. One last thing, there is an A4 laminated card on the hallway table. This is the 1st thing you see after arriving following your long journey. The 2nd line asks you to strip the beds before leaving! I was expecting a nice warm welcome, only to be greeted with a message asking me to strip beds at the end of the stay (which I don't mind doing at all by the way). It really is the little things that count. S24449 needs a little work and then it really will be a Gold Standard cottage."

"This property is old and tired. Far too much old furniture. Who has a chaise in the toilet, and a great big pink velour chair next to the toilet in the upstairs bathroom, very unhygenic!.The position of the cottage is excelent, however the windows are filthy, and painted shut. The bins are full in the yard, the maintenance staff should pop round on the correct day and get them emptied, I'm afraid I'm not prepared to stagger down the alley with other people's rubbish.Be aware when having a shower. If someone else runs the water when you are in the shower the water will come through very hot.The duvet needs replacing in main bedroom, and some of the cruddy pillows. There was various bits and pieces under the furniture, so not sure how thorough the clean between letting. On arrival downstairs smelt of sewage. They are saniflo toilets and had probably been left unattended.Good points are the towels, and the kitchen is stocked sufficiently. There is a light in the back yard (no one would want to sit out there) and at night it is constantly going on and off. The blind in the upstairs bathroom is broken, so we tried to cover the window, so that the friend in the downstairs was not driven mad by it going on and off.Speaking of the third bedroom, it is stuffed with furniture, and the only way to pull the curtain is to climb up onto the top bunk.I believe that the television downstairs doesn't work. Most importantly NO INTERNET!The cottage needs a good overhaul, and a good clean, so that when you have driven all day, you feel you are pleased at your choice, not going round seeing dust and smells!"

"We had a good family holiday at S24449. We enjoyed the unusual house, which is large enough to accommodate us easily even though at one point we were seven adults, a two-year-old and a baby. Parking for a third car when visitors came was slightly more difficult as the house is on the main road through Alnmouth, but the location was a great advantage when we wanted to eat out, buy in fish and chips, go to church, visit the lovely gift shop, or collect a few items of shopping from the surprisingly well-stocked Post office. Quite close is Alnwick for any other needs, including the famous Barter Books. We had lovely walks along the beach and round the town: there is a children's playground less than ten minutes' walk from the house which is a pleasure for adults too, with its view of the boats by the river. We enjoyed a trip to Warkworth Castle and town: a good destination if you are tired of long drives. The garden is difficult for unsupervised children as it is not enclosed and has steep concrete steps, but it's great for sitting out on the lawn and reading! Altogether we had a very happy time in a delightful friendly place which is a good base for exploring the many pleasures of the Northumberland coast."

"Our week staying at Windy View is probably one of the best weeks we have ever had staying in a rented cottage. All the facilities were excellent. If anything...the photos on the website were misleading because there was an abundance of space which wasn't clear to see on the photos. It would have been more helpful to indicate that there was a separate dining room and we sat in there more often than the lounge. The enclosed garden was first class. It meant that we could feel confident that our dog wouldn't stray when we left the door open. The views from the cottage were glorious and there was very little traffic noise even as we weren't far from the A1. One of the best equipped cottages too. I can't think of anything that would have further enhanced our visit. The little room where the boiler was situated doubled up as an excellent drying room. It was great that we were only minutes away from Alnmouth and its superb beach where the dog thoroughly enjoyed herself. A supermarket might have been welcome but Alnwick is only 10 minutes or so down the road so not a disaster. Yes! value for money and we would definitely think of returning to Windy View. Thank you for a lovely location."

"Great cottage in a beautiful area, the house was a great size for 8 of us and the welcome pack was really good. The owner was very nice and helped us with our supermarket delivery when we were delayed on our arrival due to train problems. The mattresses were very comfortable and we all slept well. A few little things needed fixing and it would have been perfect. There is a hole in the bath in the bedroom which means you can only have shallow baths, the cooker needs to have the timer set before it will work but there is no note of this, the carpets still had some dog hairs on from the previous occupants, the door to the main bathroom is very stiff and does not fit the door frame and the information pack needs updating. I would say you need a car when visiting S24449, the train station is 25 minutes walk away and the bus service is only every hour and very expensive. We enjoyed our stay and found the house very comfortable the things I have mentioned above are only very small and the house it's self is very well equipped and nicely furnished. The garden was also a bonus although not very big it was big enough for us and was very private."
