"We had a lovely holiday at S18716, celebrating some family birthdays with a family party of 13, ages ranging from 4 - 80 years. The house was lovely and comfortable, the views were great, and the garden was good, especially for the children who loved playing on the play frame. We spent a lot of time sitting in the conservatory, which was a nice space to be in.The main issues with the house were the low ceiling going up to the attic - we had a few bumped heads until we stuck our own warning note on it. Also the floor level windows in the attic were worrisome with children around. It was very hot during our stay but we were generally reluctant to open the windows up there, making it a bit uncomfortable at times. It was good to have a large dining table to sit everyone round, but it was a bit too big; taking up the entire room and you would never utilise the space in the middle of the table because you can't reach it! Finally (and probably starting to be a bit nitpicking) the Aga meant the kitchen was very hot and uncomfortable (but the weather was very hot when we were there) we had some chocolates that had to be put in the fridge as they were melting, but the fridge itself wasn't very cold, which is an issue that may need to be addressed."

"Firstly, there is no garden! Absolutely nowhere the children could play. There is a small patio at the front which was overgrown most of the time we were there and is on the road, so not a useable space. The freezer was disgusting and I needed to defrost and disinfect before we could use it. The whole house needs a deep clean to get rid of the horrible smoky smell - we ended up frebreezing everything. The sofas just need replacing! Not enough batteries for the remotes, tiny TV and no spare light bulbs. Kitchen was well equipped although no salt or pepper etc! Mattresses were very old - the double was ok but the singles weren't very comfortable. Bathroom lock was broken as was the light pull - snapped completely in my son's hand. Not enough leg room on the toilet! Would be better with the fridge in the kitchen (or a fridge freezer) and a dishwasher! Plus wifi as you only get vodaphone signal here! Booked late so there wasn't much choice but thought it was expensive for what it was, especially considering what you could get instead in the local area. Property could be so much nicer with a little TLC and a small amount of money. Up for sale and feels as if the owners have given up with it a bit."

"Brilliant location although it was a bit of a job to find. The owner was extremely helpful when contacted both before and during our stay. There were 4 adults in our party plus three dogs which was fine in terms of the lounge and dining area, any more adults would have made it a bit uncomfortable despite there being three bedrooms, there is only one bathroom and loo (please put a lock on the bathroom door!!).If I could suggest improvements it would be to dump the four poster bed and all the old style furniture, it makes the place look over-crowded (we had to use this room as my husband is 6'3" so the metal foot-board in bedroom 2 was not practical although it was a much nicer more modern room-as was the twin room). I would also lose the huge side board and the old fashioned china downstairs, which had not been dusted very well and took up way too much room. Otherwise it was a fantastic location with everything in the kitchen/lounge you could need. The neighbours were also very friendly!"

"The kitchen equipment was bizarre: although there were vast numbers of glasses and teaspoons, there were no tongs for the cooker, only a tiny fridge (despite the huge utility area) and no dishwasher. The twin bedroom has nowhere to store clothes. Inadequate lighting in the kitchen, particularly when washing up at night.Upper Borrowdale is a great location, with stunning views and fantastic walking. The cottage needs to have the cobwebs and dead flies thoroughly removed before letting. The prevalence of houseflies is clearly a problem in July and the house needs to address it in some way. The flykiller patches on the windows seemed to have lost their efficacy. There didn't seem to be a local shop, although the location is excellent for outdoor activities and pub restaurants. The cottage is good value, but still needs to address the other issues listed where possible."

"A lovely, cosy cottage in a beautiful location. A great base to explore the Lakes from, and a nice place to return to after a day out. The house was clean and well equipped, and the log burner kept us warm on chilly nights! Caldbeck is a lovely village with plenty of amenities, and is a nice place to have a wander around, including the pretty church and grounds. The cottage itself was bigger than we imagined, and the garden is fully enclosed and safe for dogs. Our Labrador certainly enjoyed herself! The only thing we found that needs addressing by the owners is to get a new mattress and pillows for the main bedroom...rather past it's best! Other than that, we had a great time here, and would recommend it to others as a great place to stay in for a Lakeland break."
