"We try to visit Northumberland every year normally staying in or around Alnmouth. However, this year we headed west to Allendale and Finley Hill Green. If you like peace and quiet in stunning scenery, then this is the place for you. The barn is attached to the owners house and has fields on three sides. The owners have a small head of cattle in the fields you drive through. These are beautiful dexters, who can be gently inquisitive. The barn itself is stunning. The workmanship is of a high standard, as are the fittings, and the furniture is comfortable. The bedrooms too are comfortable with the double quite generous with an excellent on suite. Parking is in the adjacent field and the property is accessed through a five bar gate. As I mentioned, the cattle (if they are in the field) are inquisitive, so be prepared for them licking your car! Easily cleaned off. Plenty of wildlife to enjoy, with a regular cock pheasant taking advantage of droppings from the feeder with the jackdaws. Lapwings in the field with masses of rabbits. There was a box of their own hens eggs (delicious) and a small selection of fruit on arrival. Allendale is a mile away via footpath or road, and has a small selection of shops that covers all the essentials, together with three pubs. We frequented the Golden Lion which serves good food at a very reasonable price, and has the bonus of its own micro brewery, which produces very drinkable ale. I can't recommend this place enough, and we will certainly return"

"We recently stayed at this lovely cottage in Allendale which is located less than a minutes walk from the market square and several pubs that do decent food and ales. There are also some lovely walks with the path down to the river trail only 100 yards from the front door. All the rooms are good sized (the second bedroom is huge) and tastely decorated / furnished - the owners told us that cottage has only recently been let as a holiday cottage and consequently has been redecorated throughout and largely filled with brand new furniture and equipment which was great. The piesta de resistance was the large farm house kichen which we found great for entertaining with some friends who dropped by for a couple of days. This room also has a large inglenook fireplace with a large log burner which really gives the room character and adds to an already very enjoyable room to socialise in. Highly recommended and will definitely be back next year to do some more of the great walks around the area.My husband and I recently stayed at Hare & Hounds House at Allendale Nr Hexham. The property was so spacious clean and everything in you could have wished for. We loved the log burning fires which were so cosy. The location is ideal for visiting surrounding areas. We found the owner so friendly and helpful. We certainly be staying there again"

"S78783 was beautifully decorated, clean and fully equipped for our Christmas stay. The owners have thought out very carefully the needs of their visitors. We stayed with two large dogs and they settled in straight away. The games room is also equipped for muddy dogs, with buckets, sponges and towels to clean off the dogs in the yard, before bringing them in , plus a large radiator underneath the coat hooks for drying the humans coats. The kitchen was fully equipped and the Aga was the cherry on the cake, it cooked a great Christmas dinner for 6 as my daughter and family who live in Allendale joined us with their children. Wonderful walks, friendly locals, and a selection of pubs to choose from. The beautiful church two steps from the front door ,was full for Christmas morning. Cannot praise this property enough, but possibly shouldn't say too much as we'd like to keep it a secret to ensure spaces for future bookings.Well done Andrew. Oh, the welcome pack was yummy too."

"We have stayed in numerous self catering places over the years. This one looked very nice on first impressions but as we realised there were some basics missing. No bucket, washing up bowl, broom or dustpan and brush to help keep things clean. No cleaning products to help keep things clean. No welcome tray of tea or coffee with small milk which after a long journey before stocking up is nice touch. No pepper or salt. The amount of crockery available meant the dishwasher was uneconomical to use so we washed up by hand as normal to us, but the one poor j cloth was struggling. We bought dishcloths and washing up liquid. Only two tea towels so a job to keep them clean and dry and no ovenglove. We had to buy one. As the location is so remote finding some things not straight forward. As lodge remote cooking in was vital. You couldn't just go out for meals. On the positive. Bed very comfortable, shower nice, hot tub lovely. Location a dream with river and wildlife."
