"We had a nice stay. Whilst we wouldn’t stay again, that is more a reflection of our requirements than any fault of the accommodation. When we arrived there had been confusion over our booking and our accommodation wasn’t ready. The owner very kindly paid for us to go to Tariff to get a bite to eat whilst she prepared the accommodation. We have young children, and she provided an excellent children’s kitchen for them to play with which was a real hit. The main living area is nice and comfortable and the kitchen is excellent. Well laid out with plenty of utensils and cutlery. The master bedroom is very nice and the two other rooms were perfectly adequate. There are steep stairs up to the living area, and with young children we did have to block off the stairs. I would agree with some other reviews that the suite could do with a bit of an update. The kitchen is clearly new, but the rest of the suite is quite dated and could do with a bit of a spruce up. As it was late October, it was cold, and there are only electric heaters. These are adequate but are a bit clumsy, though I expect trying to install permanent heating in such an old building would be prohibitively expensive. That said, we were warm enough and comfortable enough. The shower was powerful and warm, and the suite does have a certain charm to it. We visited the castle which is very interesting and enjoyed an afternoon tea. There was plenty of space to roam in the grounds. There is an abundance of things to see and do in the area, and you are only a 15mins drive from the coast. Aberdeen is an hour away and Inverness a little more than that. I think the suite is better suited to those wishing to explore the castles, estates and distillery’s of the area, and perhaps would suit a group of friends or 2 couples. That said, for a family of 5 it is ideal and very well priced. The owner very kindly offered us an extra night; we were unable to accept owing to having to be back in Edinburgh the following day, but had this not been the case we would have taken up her offer. Overall, this was a very pleasant stay, and I would recommend this accommodation reflecting its price, location and general comfort."

"Our family had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful house. The layout, comfort and beauty within, truly enabled a feeling of togetherness for us all. My father particularly liked his stunning en suite room, whilst my favourite was the open plan kitchen/lounge (felt distinctly 2 rooms too - amazing) The decor is very tasteful and the owners have thought of every little thing to make a difference to your holiday. Absolutely everything you could possibly need within a holiday home kitchen and separate utility room is there. You will never be bored in Ballater, with an abundance of walks/cycle trails on doorstep, cafes, restaurants, couple of pubs etc. If you’re a group of up to 8, looking for a holiday house in Ballater, I honestly wouldn’t look beyond this one. It was everything we hoped for and more and we’ve been visiting Ballater for many many years. We were a family of 8 with maximum of 6 staying at any one time. We were so so lucky to get this New Year cancellation week - it was very special for us and meant to be. Sincere thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely holiday house with those of us wise enough to book it."

"Had a very enjoyable stay at the property, it had everything you require for your stay including kitchen essentials ( washing up liquid, dish cloths, kitchen roll, salt & pepper sugar hand soaps etc ) the only thing I was disappointed with was the cleanliness of the kitchen surfaces, the kettle and toaster had a layer of greasy dust on them also the canisters on the work top, the hob and oven front weren't clean and the oven gloves were dirty with dried on food. I understand that it is no more than day to day use from previous guests but when you are paying a good sum of money to stay in a property I would expect a little more attention to detail. The rest of the property was very clean and comfortable and the nearby town of Banchory had all the amenities you could want, overall a very nice holiday."

"We stayed at Brow because my grandparents lived there when my grandfather was the head gamekeeper on Glenkindie Estate . To be honest , it was the memories that attracted us and we didn’t have great expectations of the visit .How wrong we were . The cottage has been wonderfully renovated and Glenkindie itself is as beautiful as ever . If it’s peace and quiet you’re after , this is the place to find it .The scenery is lovely and all of the locals we met were very friendly and helpful .Glenkindie House is spectacular and , although not open to the public , it can still be scene from the road and tracks .Balmoral and Braemar are an easy drive away and make an excellent day out ."

"Really nice and interesting "upside down" mill conversion. Noisiest thing we heard all week at the Mill was an owl calling and two fox cubs having a rammy in the nearby woods. Large garden area ideal for kids to burn off energy. Lots of designer features and high quality appliances; one of the best equipped kitchens for cooking from scratch we've rented in 20+ years. Downsides are a somewhat eccentric (if powerful) heating, and water system (just read provided instructions for when it doesn't work immediately), very low backed sofas and a toaster so small toaster bread doesn't fit in it. Overall great place in a stunning setting with lovely places to visit all round."
