Ty Gwynn is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, comfortable and homely feel, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests enjoyed the thoughtful welcome packs, the property's suitability for pets, and the beautiful garden. The location is appreciated for its tranquility and proximity to local attractions and walks. Some minor maintenance issues were noted, but overall, the cottage offers a delightful stay.

The cottage consistently receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests noting it as clean, tidy, and well-maintained. Only one review mentioned a 'distinct smell' upon arrival, which seems to be an isolated incident.

The location is highly praised for its quiet setting and proximity to local attractions, shops, and scenic walks. It serves as a great base for exploring North Wales & Snowdonia.

Guests find the cottage comfortable and homely, with a cosy log burner and enclosed garden for pets. Some guests mentioned the beds being a bit soft and the desire for an additional bathroom, slightly affecting the comfort score.

The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and guests appreciated the fires and garden. However, some maintenance issues like a leaky gutter and a non-working dryer were reported, which impacts the score.

Many guests mentioned welcome packs, which added to their positive experience. While these gifts are appreciated, it's important to note that such extras, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A cosy, well-appointed terraced cottage in the Welsh village of Tanygrisiau, just over a mile from the popular town of Blaenau Ffestiniog on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. Located on a residential lane amongst stunning scenery with wonderful lakeside walks nearby, and with the Ffestiniog Steam Railway passing behind the cottage, Ty Gwynn occupies a charming location. With lovely views to the front, there’s an open fire in the sitting room, where you can settle after a busy day exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. The well-equipped kitchen feels airy and bright with its vaulted ceiling and sociable dining area, whilst the snug sitting area with warming woodburning stove is neatly tucked in the corner; with two USB sockets included to charge your devices this is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine after your evening meal. Three cosy bedrooms, one on the second floor, and a contemporary family bathroom complete this delightful cottage. Outside is an enclosed paved patio area to the front, which enjoys a sunny aspect, and to the rear is a large elevated garden with furniture, a great space in which to sit and take in the views of the surrounding countryside. With plenty of pretty walks leading towards waterfalls and along the shores of the local lakes, plus an abundance of cycle paths and mountain bike tracks all available from the doorstep, there are lots of lovely things to enjoy nearby. The Ffestiniog Steam Railway is also a stone’s throw away and the longest 4-man zip wire in Europe at Zip World, with the Bounce Below underground trampoline are also close by, along with the magnificent slate caverns at Llechwedd, meaning there’s something for everyone to be enjoyed. Take a day trip to the scenic coast of North Wales, which is also easily accessible from this delightful cottage, a great base for exploring both coast and country at any time of the year.

Tanygrisiau, meaning "below the steps", refers to the stepped cliffs above this traditional Welsh village. The Moelwyn mountains protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter, and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering its location high in Snowdon. The village stands amongst some dramatic scenery, and is a good starting point for many walks, especially if your intention is to climb Moelwyn itself.

The cottage is cosy and clean with everything you could need. The little one particularly loved her room with the fox. We had fun playing the games which are provided. Also a beautiful garden which we enjoyed with fantastic views all around. We all slept brilliantly. It’s so quiet. Thanks for the Welsh cakes which were delicious. A brilliant place to stay.
