East Cottage - Tarvit is a well-regarded holiday rental with guests praising its cleanliness, tranquil location, and beautiful grounds. The cottage offers a cosy and comfortable stay, with a well-equipped kitchen and welcoming staff. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness lapses were mentioned, the overall experience is highly recommended by many for a peaceful getaway.
Most guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, there were isolated reports of cleanliness issues such as a dirty oven and presence of insects, which slightly impacted the overall impression.
The location is consistently praised for its tranquillity, beautiful grounds, and proximity to local amenities and attractions. It serves as an excellent base for exploring Fife and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Guests describe the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with a warm welcome and a relaxing atmosphere. Some guests mentioned hard mattresses and a gloomy interior due to tree coverage, but these were minor concerns.
The cottage is well-appointed with necessary appliances and facilities. Some guests experienced issues with maintenance, such as a leaking boiler and a non-functional DVD player, but staff were responsive to problems.
While some guests appreciated the dog treats and the key safe system, there is insufficient information to fully assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts or special touches. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

Well furnished with a modern kitchen, plenty of crockery and cutlery. It took no time for the heating to warm up on the colder evenings. A shower over a bath is always going to be an issue, sorry the floor kept getting wet. But would choose a National Trust property again.

I wish we were able to stay longer. Cottage is perfect for a quiet stay and surrounding estate is beautiful. Weâll definitely recommend the place to others.

We were pleased to see lovely new sofas and WiFi this time. The garden was well kept and it was great to go and buy some fruit and veg from the newly installed larder on the estate. The cottage was cosy and relaxing as ever. The only downside was no hand wash in the toilet, which would have been nice as other National Trust cottages do this as standard, along with some welcoming dog treats, poo bags and food. Also, the ironing board cover is the same one as five years ago and itâs very thin, so when any clothes are ironed, the diamond metal pattern transfers onto clothes. These are, however, minor details and we all had a fantastic stay. The staff at Hill of Tarvit are very friendly and are always happy to help. It was great visiting our usual beaches and walks at Tentsmuir and St. Andrewâs as well as Culross Palace, up to see the Selkies and an absolutely delicious meal at the Dory restaurant in Pittenweem. We will hopefully be back again next year.
