About this property

Tucked away on a grassland farm in rural Wiltshire, The Old Swill House, is a wonderful 2 bedroom holiday home. It has just been converted from a listed, stone-tiled farm building that dates back 300 years and retains its original features, to provide a couple or family of four with a stylish base for their countryside escape. The Old Swill House has ample parking and no steps enabling you to bring your luggage into the cottage with ease. Upon entering the cottage, you will be delighted by the vaulted ceiling, rustic pillars, beams and stonework of the open-plan living space. You can unwind in its beautifully furnished, well-lit sitting area warmed by a woodburning stove; read, play games, listen to music or watch a movie on the Smart TV. Behind a bar is the fully-equipped, spacious kitchen to prepare all your meals. You can dine at the wooden round table inside or outside on a stone patio where there is also a BBQ. The first-floor snug is another space to relax and enjoy views over the fabulous open-plan living space and out to the fields beyond. As the day winds to a close, you can retreat to the ground-floor king-size bedroom, or upstairs to the twin room, which is also an ideal, quiet space for your children to sleep. The Old Swill House is set in a stunning, large courtyard of stone tiled buildings, and was originally used to store carts and harnesses, and feed for the farm pigs. It is on a working farm with cows and chickens, close to a 16th century manor house with a beautiful garden that is open to the public for the National Garden Scheme and by appointment. Foxham is a delightful village, with a friendly pub and a church, both situated a 10 minute walk away. There are footpaths up the Old Wilts/Berks Canal, across local farms and through woodland. Foxham has a designated dog field, so your canine companions can stretch their legs. There is a post office & village shop in Christian Malford less than 2 miles away and another welcoming pub. The market town of Chippenham with a fast train service to London and Bristol is 6 miles away. There is a wealth of things to do in the wider area, from the bustling cities of Bristol and Bath hosting an array of attractions. Close by is Bowood House and Gardens, with an adventure playground, making for an idyllic outing for all ages, Avebury and the Marlborough Downs, local museums such as the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes and the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its picturesque towns, Malmesbury, Tetbury and Cirencester. For a memorable stay in Wiltshire, choose The Old Swill House.

Foxham is a delightful village in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, home to a lively pub, an old canal and a fine church. There are many walks from the farm through lovely woodland and across fields. An ideal base for exploring historic sites and towns, visitors can easily drive to a variety of places such as Avebury, Cirencester, Bath and Bristol. Chippenham Station on the mainline from Paddington is 15 minutes away, as is the M4.

It’s on a working farm and the owner and her staff were all very friendly and helpful but never intrusive. Plenty of interesting places to visit within a 10 mile radius. Dog friendly. One of the best short getaway holidays we’ve ever had and will definitely recommend to our friends and family. We hope to book another stay very soon.

There are lots of great day trips within close proximity, lovely walks on the doorstep and a fab little cafe just up the road - the Barn Cafe. There are also lots of lovely pubs nearby, we'd highly recommend the Foxham and the Dumb Post Inn (the latter has fab views).
