About this property

Bakewell 5.4 miles. Nestled in the quaint village of Middleton-by-Youlgrave near Bakewell in the Peak District National Park is Dragon Cottage. This historic cottage dates to 1822 and benefits from charming features like exposed beams woven throughout and a homely interior welcoming four guests; perfect for couples or small families looking to explore Derbyshire. Be greeted by the warmth of the wood burning stove in the heart of the home, where you can snuggle up on the plush sofas having locked away your push bikes in our handy bike store ready for more adventures to come. Local stores, where you can pick up essentials to help ease your self catered stay, can be found in nearby Youlgreave which is easily accessible by a short scenic drive or walk of just over a mile. Whilst there why not book in for a meal at one of the three traditonal pubs in the village, or stop for a cup of tea at the tea rooms? The village store is open 7 days a week, and the post office is the hub for the local bakery. If you want to venture further afield within 15 minutes you will discover the historic market town of Bakewell on the trout filled river Wye. Here you can brush up on the history of the area at Bakewell Old House museum, housed in an impressive Tudor House dating back to Henry VIII reign. From Bakewell Bridge you have an ideal opportunity for that perfect holiday photo taking in the scenic River Wye from the historic arched bridge. Continue exploring the history dotted through the national park by exploring sites including Chatsworth House, Magpie Mine, Eyam Hall and the National Trust site of Winster Market House. There are also a wealth of walks and trails which reward guests with breath-taking views across the English countryside; traverse Jacob’s Ladder, Lose Hill, White Peak and Eyam Moor to name a few. Explore the wonders of the Peak District at Dragon Cottage.

An appealing little market town with a pleasant rural vibe and a wide range of retail options, dining establishments, and watering holes (not to mention regular farmer's markets). The town square features a market hall from the 17th century and a newer recreation centre with a pool. Bakewell is conveniently located inside the Peak District National Park, making it a popular starting point for excursions into the park's stunning surroundings. Alton Towers, Britain's best theme park, is only a short drive away, and both the rugged Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak are within easy reach. Some of the more notable landmarks in the area include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall, as well as the nearby caverns in Castleton and Little John's burial place in Hathersage. The stunning Edwardian Opera House in Buxton was designed by Frank Matcham, who also created the London Palladium.

Clean; comfortable beds; well stocked kitchen; really hot water and large bathroom We thought there was a dish washer and indeed dish washer tablets were left for us but there isn’t one. Not that it mattered too much Would have liked a bowl and drainer mat for the sink to protect both sink and china. Also a caddy in the shower for gels and shampoos etc. would love to come back again
