Guests say

Gillybeck is a well-situated cottage in Ambleside, praised for its cleanliness, room layout, and equipment. Guests appreciate the proximity to local amenities and the convenience of parking. While some find the property comfortable and recommend it for a relaxing break, others suggest updates to the decor and facilities could enhance the experience.

Most guests find Gillybeck clean, with some suggesting room for improvement in cleaning standards. The property is generally well-kept, though a few guests noted areas that could benefit from more attention.

The location is highly regarded for its proximity to Ambleside and local transport, making it an excellent base for exploring. However, the steep access may be challenging for those with mobility issues.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the living space ample. However, noise from the apartment above and light pollution in some rooms detract from the overall comfort for some visitors.

The cottage is equipped with essential appliances, but guests report issues with showers, lighting, and kitchenware. Some areas are described as dated, and maintenance concerns are noted.

While some guests mention the lack of a welcome pack, there is insufficient information to assess overall thoughtfulness. It should be noted that such amenities are not guaranteed and vary by stay.

The smell in the kitchen and living room smelt stale, the bedrooms smelt of damp. The shower above the bath, was no more than a trickle, and not fit for purpose. Miss match of plates, cups, no cleaning items, other than a empty surface spray under sink, no hand soap in bathroom. The kitchen has seen better days, chipped units, and a fridge that isnt cold. I've taken photos, if you require them. Please feel free to contact me, to discuss this further.

The lounge/diner did however lack natural light for much of the day requiring a light to be on. Bathrooms clean but small and dated. The major drawback for me was the noise from the floor above, every step and movement was clearly heard with the loud creaking through the ceilings at all hours. For this reason I could not consider staying here again.
