Guests say

Guests appreciate the cottage's peaceful location, comfortable main bedroom, and modern bathroom. The property offers a cosy atmosphere with a log burner and is well-situated for exploring the Lake District. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, but overall experiences were positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property spotless, while others reported dust, dirt under sofas, and unpleasant odours. The inconsistency suggests room for improvement in cleaning standards.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to local attractions, and suitability for dog walking. Its setting in the countryside with nearby access to towns is a highlight for many visitors.

The main bedroom and bathroom receive compliments for their comfort and high standards. However, some guests found the living room furniture dated and the heating system, controlled remotely, to be inconvenient.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and quality appliances. Some guests encountered issues with maintenance, such as the log burner and garden upkeep. The presence of a secure yard is appreciated.

While some guests mentioned a welcome pack, there is insufficient information to assess the consistency of thoughtful gestures such as gifts. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that such amenities will be provided.

We contacted the company who sent a housekeeper out to mop the floor and add an air freshener. Upon our return to the cottage, it still had an odour of dog. This is due to the 'dog house' under the stairs. We contacted the company again and told it was our word against the housekeeper and if we stayed at a dog friendly property this comes with the territory. What a load of rubbish. Very unhelpful staff. After several discussions with the company we were told in no uncertain terms that we would not get any of our money back. Also the photos need updating as the living room does not look like the photos. For the record this property was booked 2 hours prior to us arriving. If they needed an admin fee and to pay the housekeeper for mopping the floor and adding an air freshener, we should have at least received 3 out of 4 days refund. This non-holiday booked in good faith cost £446.00 for 4 nights.

I have enjoyed two Christmas’s here also, it really is a home from home. I don’t normally leave reviews for anything but reading more recent reviews of Low Dog, I feel compelled to leave a review, as I feel it doesn’t represent it correctly. It’s a fantastic cottage really a home from home. I have witnessed firsthand the investment and cosmetic changes that have been made, not because of poor or inadequate quality but for investment into the property. During this time it’s has had an eco pump installed for the future proof and environmental factors. New smart television, new sofas and garden furniture. It’s comfy cosy and quiet, all the things needed for a relaxing break. It’s pet friendly which is music to all pet owners ears. With stone floors downstairs it’s absolutely ideal, taking away any smelly carpets but also the worry of any accidents spillages or muddy boots. Same with the rear garden all paved for ease no muddy grass. It has all the benefits of dog beds and blankets, bowls etc. And the little cubbyhole for dogs if you wanted to use. With all the will in the world animals animals sleep in here it’s pet friendly what do you expect ??? This cottage has the most wonderful bathroom the shower and bath are heaven!!!!! The bedrooms are comfy and cosy and you couldn’t ask for anymore. I have stayed in a lot of Sykes properties and this is a little gem that keeps pulling me back. From the visits from the cows to watching the heron on the stream, you really wouldn’t regret staying here!!!! More recent reviews are extremely inflammatory and give a false impression of one of the best cottages.
