Hawthorne House situated in the Lake District National Park, is a
delightful Victorian duplex apartment resting on the first and second floors of a pretty property in Dubwath, a stones throw away from Bassenthwaite Lake near Keswick, which is only 8 miles away. Be welcomed into this property on the ground floor, ascending the stairs to find the apartment beginning on the first floor. Enter into a sitting room with dual aspect windows making the most of the pretty countryside views, creating a space ideal for reclining with a glass of your favourite beverage as you plan the day ahead of you. On the first floor you will also find a sleek shower room and a cloakroom with a washing machine. Prepare a hearty meal in the amply-fitted kitchen/diner, where there is plenty of space to cook and dine together. On the second floor, discover two bedrooms, choosing between a king-size and a twin. Dubwath is a small settlement resting on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, a beautiful spot for walking beside the lake and checking out the local wildlife with stunning views of forrests and fells inc Skiddaw, a quieter part of the Lake District. Dubwath also offers Bassenthwaite Sailing Club for watersports activities, and close by cafés and pubs, including Bassenthwaite Lake Station and The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite. For a local shop, as well as a selection of pubs and eateries, plus a golf course, head over to Cockermouth, and from here days at the seaside can be spent at Maryport and Workington. Keswick is well worth a visit, offering quaint shops, countryside walks, and a historic stone circle. Also within walking distance is The Lakes Local Distillery. Throughout the incredible scenery of the Lake District National Park there are many more lakes, hikes, and intriguing locations to visit including Castlerigg Stone Circle, Scafell Pike, Skiddaw, Windermere, and Whinlatter Forest. All of this and so much more with a stay at Hawthorne House.
The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
