Despite their seemingly unfailing ability to spoil us throughout the year, it can be notoriously difficult to find an appropriately special gift for your mum. Whilst here at Snaptrip we believe that a last minute cottage holiday is a good idea for any occasion, we decided to think a little bit outside of the box. So if you’re still looking for inspiration on how to spoil your mum when Sunday 26th March rolls around – here’s a list of 5 unusual places to take your mum this Mother’s Day!
1. A visit to the dramatic landscapes of Poldark
If your mum watches television, then there is a very big chance that she is a fan of the popular BBC drama Poldark. Or has at least heard of it. One of the most impressive parts of the show is the beautiful Cornish coastline that forms the dramatic backdrop, with many calling the increased boom of tourism to the region a by-product of the ‘Poldark Effect‘ So why not get your mum in on the scenic action with a visit to Poldark’s Cornwall? Visit Cornwall even have a guide to visiting the film locations!
2. Take a chocolate making workshop in York
Why buy you mum a box of chocolate, when you can learn how to make it instead?! Nothing beats handcraft chocolates, and it will make for a memorable day to remember. York is known as they UK’s home of chocolate, so where better to visit and learn a skill together. Our favourite spot? The York Cocoa House, which has a range of workshops to suit all levels of master-chocolate’teering.
3. A relaxing break in a hot tub
So maybe you don’t have to go along with her on this one, but what a present it’d be! Because let’s face, it takes a certain type of person to not enjoy a relaxing time in a hot tub, and I would hazard a guess that your mum is not that person. If you think that your mum works hard throughout the year, consider showing your appreciation with the ultimate in stress-free, relaxation..
4. Visit her favourite childhood destination
If you were born any time after 1980, it is likely that whilst you were growing up, you went abroad for your holidays as a child. Many of our mothers however, would have had a particular UK destination that they visited year on year – and all the fond memories that follow. Ask your mum if she had a special place, one that brings back nostalgic childhood memories, and then all that’s left is to plot her trip back in time! Go on, for old times sake 😉
5. Push her out of an airplane!
Ok, so this one won’t be for all mums. However, some mums are big adrenaline junkies, so if you want to give her a gift that she will never forget, how about making the jump? The guys over at UK Skydiving Adventures have 21 skydiving centres in the UK, so you can pick whichever is most convenient for you, and the scariest for mum!
So there you have it, 5 unusual Mother’s Day gifts. Because if there is one common trait among all mums’ – it is that they love to boast about how amazing their children are.
