About this property

The fabulous ‘living kitchen’ and dining area is situated on the Lower Ground floor with a wonderful view of the beach and sea. It is a well-equipped, Shaker-style kitchen with plenty of storage space, granite work surfaces, quality appliances including a Smeg range oven and hob, Smeg fridge/freezer and Neff dishwasher. The dining area comfortably seats six, there’s an L-shaped sofa and LCD flat screen TV to sit and relax.

There is also a shower room on this floor and a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer plus beach equipment including chairs, for guests to enjoy.

On the ground floor, the superb sitting room has bay windows with window seats offering breath-taking sea and beach views plus there is a LCD Flat screen TV with Sky and a wood burning stove-style gas fire. A sliding door opens onto a wonderful balcony and sun deck with infinity windbreak balustrade and wicker-style furniture.

There is a double bedroom on the ground floor with wonderful views of the sea, an immaculate en-suite shower room with a large shower, WC and hand wash basin.

On the first floor, the master bedroom has stunning sea views and a vaulted, beamed ceiling plus a comfortable king-size bed plus a large en-suite shower room that has a double size shower, WC and hand wash basin.

There is a beautiful twin bedroom with two single beds, with glorious sea views, and a stylish en-suite shower room with a large walk-in shower, WC and hand wash basin. All linen and towels are provided.

Outside of the property a carport provides covered parking with direct access to the kitchen for unloading – there is a 2.05m clearance for large cars. To the rear is a small courtyard garden.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. In the season, beachside stalls offer everything from light snacks and drinks to boats, buckets and spades! Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place with something for everyone!

It is in a great position with fabulous sea views and has been created with a lot of thought given to the decor and high end fittings. However, the same consideration has not been given to the cleaning and maintenance of the property. It was dirty, with thick black dust in the crockery cupboard, the top of the fridge/freezer, even on the poles on the kitchen wall holding the hooks for the mugs. All the drawers had crumbs in them, there were food stains/marks on the kitchen walls and on the window shutters by the sink. The backsplash to the range oven was greasy and there is food baked on to the shelves inside the oven. The surface of the outside table was dirty, with cigarette butts left under it and in a rusty can. A deep clean is required in each shower cubicle, where there is a build up of dirt. The freezer needs defrosting. The paintwork is in need of a refresh in some areas and the handles on the wardrobes in the double and single bedded rooms need tightening up. A chest of drawers in the double room would have been useful. With hindsight, I should have contacted Yorkshire cottages to advise them, but I didn't realise the extent of the problem until I started cleaning and then I continued with further family members due to arrive expecting a meal to be served. We will return again to Sandsend, which is in an excellent position, being a quieter place with a lovely beach and several places to eat out, but only a mile to walk into Whitby. However, we will not be staying at Shore View.

I got this and changed it, but the fire wouldn’t fire up. Was a bit disappointed with parking and no dressing gowns in the property, but overall it was a pleasant stay

The location, sea views from all windows and layout and decor of the property all made for an extremely pleasant stay and we will certainly consider returning for our stay next year. Owner Feedback: Whilst the sofas were comfortable enough the occasional chairs both downstairs and in the living room were incredibly uncomfortable. You don't need to go to the expense of new chairs but the seat cushions need replacing as a priority. It's like siting on wood making it near on impossible for us to sit and enjoy the view or gather as a family when it was raining and blowing a gale outside. The paintwork is also in need of a touch up and is looking very tired and battered in places. Finally the glasses need reviewing. Many are chipped and there are only 4 tumblers left meaning constant washing up to ensure glasses and crockery on hand. Also we couldn't get the fire to work. Think the control needed new batteries but it meant the living room was cold and the chairs were hard which was disappointing given its such a lovely property. We appreciate its hard to keep on top when it's so popular, but to book a day out over the low season to attend to everything would help keep the property in 5* condition and warrant the premium rental.
