Snaptrip says

Cragfell Cottage is highly praised for its stunning views, peacefulness, and comfort, providing a perfect retreat from city life. Guests appreciate the cleanliness, the well-equipped space, and the beautiful location, ideal for exploring The Lakes. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is one of relaxation and enjoyment in a traditional countryside setting.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found the cottage to be very clean, contributing to a relaxing and enjoyable stay. However, a few guests mentioned finding dirty utensils and leftover food, which slightly impacted the overall impression of cleanliness.

The cottage's location is frequently described as beautiful and tranquil, offering stunning views and a peaceful environment. It serves as a good base for exploring the lakes, although a few guests found the remote setting and narrow lanes challenging.

Guests consistently report that the cottage is cozy and comfortable, with a particularly comfortable bed and a homely feel. The open shower design and lack of certain furniture slightly affected the comfort level for some.

The facilities generally meet guests' needs, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. However, reports of a broken chair, a strong smell from the boiler, and a lack of certain amenities like oven gloves and ironing equipment suggest room for improvement in maintenance.

While guests have expressed appreciation for the cottage and its offerings, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

About this property

Cragfell Cottage is a great place to relax, it is set within gorgeous countryside with amazing views as far as the eye can see. If you are celebrating a special occasion or just wanting to spend time with your loved one, Cragfell Cottage is for you.

The location just cannot be beaten and is conveniently situated with three public houses and restaurants at the neighbouring Strawberry Bank, Bowland Bridge and Winster. These are within a 25 minute walk or a short drive. It is also close to the bustling village of Bowness.

After parking your car in one of the two parking spaces, step into the large and spacious open plan kitchen/diner with its exposed wooden beams and vaulted ceiling, the kitchen/dining area is fully equipped with everything you need to cook that hearty breakfast or indeed have a romantic ambient dinner.

Just off the dining area is a downstairs cloakroom with WC and basin.

The sitting room has floor to ceiling windows and French doors, enabling you to admire the views. Sit and watch the TV or relax and read a book. Step out from here and sit on the patio and watch the sun set or enjoy that BBQ or chilled drink of an evening.

Take the stairs to a mezzanine area, a great chill out area with seating, a good place to sit and plan the day ahead.

The bedroom too had great views and on the same level has a fully tiled shower room with basin and WC.

To the rear of the property is a single brick store which is lockable with electric, ideal for safe storage of mountain bikes or canoes. This area can also be used to dry wet clothing.

The historic, South Lakeland village of Cartmel is renowned as the prettiest village in the Lake District. The Priory Church, one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in the north of England, remains the heart of the community with its gatehouse forming the entrance to the village. The village features pretty streamside walks, quaint cobbled streets littered with antique shops, a charming gift shop, welcoming, traditional pubs serving real ale, the nationally acclaimed, Michelin Star awarded L'Enclume restaurant, and the Cartmel Village shop, which sells the famous sticky toffee pudding. Take advantage of excellent walking opportunities amidst beautiful, unspoilt countryside, visit The National Hunt Racecourse, Campbell Legend Bluebird Exhibition, Lakeland Motor Museum and Holker Hall with its spectacular gardens, all of which are close by. The quiet seaside retreat of Grange-over-Sands, with its Edwardian buildings and mountain backdrop, is a mere 2 miles away, whilst Windermere, with its panoramic views over England's longest lake, is within a thirty minute drive. A superb holiday destination, at any time of year.

Other than the comings and goings of our neighbours, the only noise was birdsong which sadly is so short lived through the spring and the resident pheasants. The cottage itself is very spacious and comfortable - especially the bed. We loved being able to keep the patio doors open at night and listen to owls, see bats and generally enjoy the evening as it cooled. Yes we had sunny and very warm weather. We’d totally forgotten how stunning the Lythe Valley is and our stay here was a timely reminder. Thank you to the owners for making the cottage so welcoming and I bet they’ve got plans to improve the shower room because a little improvement there would make the cottage perfect.

Very clean and tidy with much local information provided. We came for a peaceful break and certainly got that. The weather limited our walks but still managed to get around the area by walking using the quiet country lanes. More than happy to recommend Cragfell Cottage

It’s set in the most beautiful countryside, with gorgeous views and is so peaceful & quiet. There are lovely walks from the front door, we walked to Masons Arms which serves great food. The cottage is a great base to explore the Southern Lake District. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely book again!
